Xbox 360 slim internal hard drive vs external hard drive

Hello everyone,

I have a Xbox 360 slim 4gb version which I have recently updated to the newest dash which allows you to use external hard drives up to 2TB of storage space. I do not have an internal hard drive installed at this time.

My question is this-----> I have three games (Need for Speed Rivals, Titanfall and BF4) which I currently can not install because a pop up keeps coming up that I need to have an internal hard drive to install the extra content and then play.

Since the newest update allows you to add up to 2TB of external storage. Can you now install these games to the external hard drive and play or do you still need to have an internal hard drive installed which would be very annoying to say the least.

Does anyone have knowledge of this problem and have a solution or work around to get the games to work or install to the external hard drive??

I hooked up a brand new 500gb external USB drive and the Xbox seemed to format and recognize the drive but when I try and install say Titanfall, it still says that the external hard drive is not a valid option. Crazy!!!

Am I out of luck and have to break down and buy an internal hard drive and waste more money. I thought the external hard drive would work the same as the internal hard drive but maybe I am wrong or have done something wrong??

Any ideas or help? I can't be the only one who is aggravated with this problem?

Which external hard drives do you use (up to 2 TB)?

I've got an Xbox 360 Slim and I want an external hard drive. I want to know which you use and if you experience anything wrong with it? Would an internal hard drive with external enclosure work? Are there requirements for the hard drive, e.g. FAT32?

 

Issues with installation

I'm gonna be more specific: the game doesn't accept installation on external storage. Whether it's flash drive or external hard drive, the game isn't meant to install on external storage connected through USB just like Need for Speed Rivals on Xbox 360.
You need to install it on an internal hard drive (media hard drive). The link I provided to you aren't external hard drives; they're internal hard drives for the Xbox 360:

Indeed you can install a game to an external hard drive. Please follow these easy steps to start playing games from your external hard drive:

Step 1.

Power the Xbox and connect the external hard disk drive into the port (The Xbox should self-detect it).

Step 2.

Insert the game disk you want to install on the hard disk drive.

Step 3.

Highlight/hover over the game that is on the CD.

Step 4.

Press "Y" on your controller. (While still hovering over the game on the "home menu" and a window will appear prompting you to choose which hard disk to install or select on the external hard drive.

Step 5.

Select the external hard drive and wait until the game fully installs on the hard disk drive. Then you can play the game!

Any game that states that it requires a hard drive is actually looking for an official MS hard drive because of the system files on it. An external is just seen as USB storage and not a hard drive so those games will still be looking for an MS hard drive.
