    Xbox 360 Slim black screen when using AV Reciever or HDMI Switch


    My setup is as follows

    Samsung un55F8000 - wall mounted

    Denon AVR-X2000 Reciever - on audio tower in the corner

    Cable Bow- Located on a audio tower in the corner

    Samsung BlueRay - Audio tower

    Xbox 360 Slim

    Brand New Audioquest HDMI cables, tried 3 different ones



    The xbox works fine when plugged directly into the tv but when i plug it into the reciever I get nothing but a black screen. I have tried every single HDMI input on the reciever they all work witht he BlueRay and Cable Box but not the xbox. I have also swapped
    every HDMI cable.

    I have gone through the troubleshooting guide and have reset the video setting (y+RT) enables/disabled the Display Discovery. Complete system reset.

    The only thing I can think of would be a HDCP issue.

    Any help would be great

    XBox 360 E and component video? digital audio?

    joeunc: The stereo cable works but you lose surround sound. You could buy a HDMI audio splitter, or, some HDMI switches include a TOSLINK audio out. Try monopriceDOTcom.

    Mythic: Xbox 360e has neither. The E dropped the AV cable that had been there since the 1st Xbox 360. I would have gotten a slim but the $99 E's on black Friday were too good to pass up.

    Switching back from hdmi to av???? Please Help!

    Okay my little cousin went to my house for the 4th of July and he only has av cords, so I decided to hook up his system using my spare hdmi cord for better picture. But now when he got home to play on his xbox slim with the regular av cords, on the tv screen
    it is just black. I guess it is still set on hdmi. Does anyone know how to get back to the old settings or can help me out here?

    I want to add that this is the second reciever, I exchanged the first one for a new one and it still has the same problem. I spent a hour and a hlaf on the phone with Denon support before making this post.

    Xbox 360 Slim - HDMI Setup

    To switch from an AV port cable to an HDMI cable, try the following:

    • Power off the console and the display
    • Unplug the AV port cable
    • Plug in the HDMI cable on the console
    • Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to an input on the display
    • Power on the display and select the corresponding HDMI input
    • Follow the instructions listed in
      Solution 4 of the black screen on TV or Monitor troubleshooter       while powering on the console

    That should get you to... I believe a 480p output from the 360 to the display. After that, you can adjust the output format from System Settings.

    Do all WHITE 360's have the same A/V ports?

    all 360 systems (old white, slim black) have the same AV port only the power connectors are different between the 2 versions and some old ones had HDMI some did not.

    Strange Problem

    Depending on your display the Xbox may lose the digital handshake when you change sources ie hdmi 1 to hdmi 2. The digital handshake is the security feature built into hi-def scheme. If the handshake is broken it may cause your Xbox to restart making it
    search for a display. With my Yamaha av reciever I believe it will hold on to the key when switching between sources on the reciever.
