    Xbox 360 Shutdown


    This may seem insane, but I'm one of the people who still occasionally play the Xbox 360, despite rhe fact that I have an Xbox One. I don't even know if questions about the 360 are answered, but I'll ask anyway.

    This started a while ago, about a year to a year and a half. I'll be playing the 360, on a game or whatever, and it will shut down with no warning, and the light on the power supply will turn red (Not the ring).

    It will stay like this until unplugged. I always assumed it was overheating, bur no matter what I may do to attempt to fix it, it still shuts down about an hour to 4 hours in.

    What causes this, and is there a way to fix it?

    Hi Dave,

    Thank you for coming to the forums, I'd be happy to provide some information.

    By the looks out it, the console's power supply may be going bad since it can't keep the console powered for an extended amount of time. What usually causes this to happen is degradation of the internal components and fuse with time and usage and plugging
    into surge protectors has been known to speed up this process.

    Unfortunately there is no way to fix this since it's a hardware issue. You can only replace the power supply at this point if you have tried different power outlets already and the issue remains. You can always test a different power supply if you happen
    to know someone who has one. This can also rule out your console itself as being the problem, but I'm leaning more towards the power supply being the root cause.
