Xbox 360 shows in black and white.

Hi all,

I have an xbox 360 about a year old...not really much game play. I actually only completed halo 3 on it and half way through halo 4. So i really don't play it much.

Anyways we get a new TV Toshiba and after I plug it up...it's playing in black and white.

I tinker with the TV a bit and still black and white, I give my cable to a friend ( cable with the yellow, red and white tip) to try and he said his xbox has color. I also plugged my xbox back to my old TV and no color, plug it at my friend's place with
his cable and mine...no color.

Is it possible that changing the TV changed some sort of setting on the xbox? again it would be really hard for me to think my xbox has a problem as the thing is rarely used. Secondly, I can find no link on the internet pointing that the xbox may be at fault,
it's always the cable and the TV.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

(PS. do you think it would make a difference if i got a cable that has an S output? thank you)

XBox 360 - Change from NTSC to PAL?

Did anybody answer your question about changing settings to pal? I got an scart converter and now my Xbox shows up in black and white.

 

What happened to xbox music?

So I used xbox music on the 360 and it had cool visuals with the artists picture in black and white behind a translucent colored background with shapes that grew and shrunk. On the xbox one it just shows the artist pictures. Why? The old way looked so much
better.

 

I found these instructions that might help you.

Try to move the cables around and follow the instructions into plugging them in. First plug into the Component Input section of your TV the 3 wires that are bunched together which are RED/GREEN/BLUE. Now, take the other bunch of wires, the RED/WHITE/YELLOW,
and plug the RED and WHITE into the respective Audio inputs next to the component input. The yellow wire is not used.

If this doesn't work, try unplugging the cord from the XBOX while it is running, and plugging it back in.

 

I dont have a red green blue, I have a Red/White/Yellow

 

Is the TV an HDTV or a standard definition TV? The composite cables are not compatible with HDTVs. You would need a different cable.

 

I'm not sure if its an HDTV or not...but it doesn't have an HDMI port for sure. Its a Toshiba model no 35AF44.

Funny enough I plugged up my old little TV and it was in black and white, but after changing color to auto it came back colored so im thinking it's not my xbox thats the problem.

If I plug in an Svideo cord, or get the cable with the green and blue ( my cable is just red white and yellow) Would that work?

 

The TV is not an HDTV, but check where you have the cables plugged into the back of the TV. Make sure they're plugged into either the Video 1 or Video 2 In section (if you need a diagram, you can find the manual here -

If that doesn't work, try these steps to reset the output settings:

1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.

2. Turn off the console.

3. Turn on the console.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left light illuminated.

4.As the console starts, on the controller, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts.

If all of that fails, you'll need to try getting a component cable (the with with the blue and green).

 

Hi, I plugged it everywhere but still no color, I tried on my older TV and there is color , my wii and my cable shows color on my new tv (same place I plug in the xbox) so i know it's just a matter of compatibility somewhere.

I have already tried the restart the display defaults but that didnt help.

So last resort is a new cable, is the S video cable not an option?

Secondly, is there a black and white issue when plugged to televisions not supporting composite?

 

The 360 doesn't work with S video. Yes, there is a video issue when plugged into TV's that don't support composite, but yours should so that shouldn't be an issue.
