    Earlier in 2013, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 Servers would be taken offline in early 2016.

    Microsoft has announced that Xbox 360 games will work on Xbox One in Fall 2015. However, the games work by emulating the Xbox 360 system software itself.

    My question is this: Will Xbox 360 Multiplayer work on Xbox One, even after the 360 servers go offline?

    Can Microsoft or the gaming companies keep servers for Xbox 360 online now that Xbox one has backwards compatability with Xbox 360 games ?

    why do classic games have to lose their online just so we can buy the new games

    can Microsoft give us the option and tools to create our own private servers ?

    MS have NEVER stated when the Xbox 360 servers will be taken down.

    Even IF that article stated servers were taken down. That article was posted before the release of XBOX One and more importantly before Phil Spencer really got involved to the level he is now.

    I'm curious about games that are played online on both consoles....like PvZ Garden Warfare. I have it on 360 and Xbox One.....each one runs on it's own server so I can have both consoles playing it at the same time online. After this change is made it
    sounds like playing online in the 360 version will no longer be possible then?

    Xbox 360 Online Servers URGENT Request.....

    Well no one knows when the 360 servers will be shut down but with the recent announcement of backwards compatibility on the xbox one it wont be anytime soon as they will need the 360 servers to run backwards compatible games.

    If you are playing an Xbox 360 game through the Xbox One's backward compatibility feature, you are able to play it online.

    While playing the Xbox 360 game online, players on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles would populate the same servers and lobbies.

    As a sidenote, the Xbox 360 version of GTA V is currently NOT backward compatible with the Xbox One.

    You mean the Xbox 360 servers for Xbox Live? Not any time soon that's for sure. The reason is because backwards compatibility of the 360 on the One is keeping the system going.

    It's not getting shut down. You will be able to still play your favourite games on the Xbox 360.

    A lot of people still play on the Xbox 360 and the backwards compatibility feature on the Xbox One will be using the same servers for the backwards compatible Xbox 360 games.

    So you have no need to worry about them shutting down for several years.
