    Xbox 360 S reads disc but won't play it.


    My Xbox 360 S can completely read any disc I put in the tray, by read I mean it identifies games (it displays the game in the dashboard). But when I press "play game" a black screen comes up and just stays there. Like if it was stuck when it barely started
    playing the disc. The console won't make any noise, meaning the disc is not spinning and of course my console is not playing it. I am able to press the xbox guide button and the menu comes up, I try to go to the dashboard but as soon as I press "Yes" console
    freezes. I tried cleaning my console from all the dust, clearing my cache and it has always been in a very well ventilated area.

    Everything else works great.

    Does anyone has or have had the same problem?

    Hello,

    My Xbox 360 E reads DVD discs(Movies , etc.) but doesn't read Game Disc.

    I gave the games disc(s) to my friend and it worked fine on his Xbox 360 S.

    I have played games on this before(3 months, Also finished 2 games.)

    Is this a CD Reader problem?or Anything with like viruses?(I put a disc and it was "Reading" for a long time and then it didn't play.)

    It shows "Unrecognized Disc" or "Mixed Media Disc" Error.

    Any help on this?

    Check you local xbox live service:

    Social and Gaming is currently unavailable.

    The exact same thing is happening to me, took me a while to find this, but i am experiencing exactly the same problem with my 360 Elite, by reading what you're saying it's a live issue, but why would an online service disrupt the start up of a game not intended
    to be played online, i even tried playing a game bought off the store and i downloaded, so there is no physical fault with the disc reader?

    as the previous gamer stated he was receiving the black screen problem which is causing this alert in xbox live service. If you are sharing the same problem I suggest you to exercise patience and check often your local xbox live service

    Having problems with lots of newer games on older 360

    Similar issue. Xbox 360 S 250gb, plays large collection of discs no problem. Brand new AC4, and Rocksmith 2014 won't load (unable to read). New AC3 plays fine. No used games, these are all brand new.

    Hi,

    It's not the discs it's your console. If your console can not read DVD movies then it won't read Xbox 360 games either. DVD movie discs use the same type of discs that 360 games use (DVD-9).

    The Xbox One has two lasers to read discs. One for Blu-rays - which Xbox One discs games are made of - and one for reading DVD's and Xbox 360 games.

    They aren't considering backwards compatibility. They are considering an emulator that will allow the Xbox One to play 360 games via streaming or downloading. It won't actually read old 360 discs, though.

    Hi,

    Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

    To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.

    Here are a few troubleshooters you may want to look through. the most common reason and Xbox 360 won't read a disc is if the optical lens inside the disc tray area that actually reads the discs is dirty. But these should help any ways.

    The best way to get that fixed if that is the issue, would be to either clean the disc itself with a soft cloth to make it easier to read or to take the console to a local electronics hobby store like a GameStop to get it cleaned up. Microsoft doesn't do
    servicing for Xbox 360's anymore and its really advised to not try and repair/clean up a console yourself.
