Xbox 360 S corrupt HDD

I want to wipe this hard drive completely clean. However when I attach it to my PC to wipe it, it's not recognized as a device. In fact, it's not recognized as anything at all. I want to be able to just clear it out of all corrupt data. Plugging it into
the Xbox gives me error code E63. I know the HDD is corrupt and I want to wipe it so I can reformat it but my PC doesn't even pick it up as a device when I plug it in. What can I do?

Hey Manglips!

WPAK's tips are solid. If there are any corrupt items on your Xbox 360's HDD, this could cause issues with downloading content, which includes profiles. Following up with clearing the system cache is always a great follow up step, especially after clearing
any corrupt files.

First off, you cannot wipe a hard drive with your pc as that would remove the Xbox coding that would allow it to function properly on the console.

Now, if the PC is not recognizing the hard drive it is probably dead and needs to be replaced.

Otherwise, please give the steps at the link a try for the error code.

You most certainly can wipe it. After it's wiped you put it in a PC, format it as a standard external hard drive, then put it in the xbox and format it as an xbox storage device.

I also already tried each step for the error code. I can definitively say that the hard drive is corrupt.

Just because you have found a way to format your console's hard drive on your PC does not mean that you should do it. There is no official support for what you are attempting to do and indeed, doing so is against the Terms of Use. You are only allowed
to format the Xbox 360 hard drive on an Xbox 360 console. If your console will no longer allow you to that, then you must buy another Xbox 360 hard drive.

Any further discussions about this are strictly prohibited as per the Terms of Use and the forum rules.

As long as you use an official Xbox 360 S hdd in any model Xbox 360 S you are OK. It's possible that your original post was misinterpreted as promoting the use of an Xbox 360 "Classic" hdd in an S model, which a) would not be possible unless you were to
mod the hdd module and b) if you DID mod a Classic hdd to fit in an S console you would be in breach of the TOU.

I don't believe anyone is suggesting that using an official, unmodded, un-tampered with Xbox 360 S hdd in the hdd slot of a Xbox 360 S 4GB model would be in any way breaching the TOU.
