xbox 360 S bricked due to 9/3/2014 update!!! beware!!!

xbox 360 s customers beware 9/3/2014 I accepted a system update from Microsoft on my xbox360 s 4g console and it complete bricked the console. It turns on, but that's about it. Cannot log in. The console does not boot up. All I get is an error message telling
me to reinstall my hard drive to complete the update. 4174-417F-B780-0F00-C000-007B I have. It didn't work. I have removed the 320g hd and tried to start the console without the hd installed. Same error message. I have been on the phone with customer support
for the last 3 days to find out, that yes my console does need repair and they want to charge me $79.99 or $99.99 to repair a problem that never existed before I accepted Microsoft's mandatory system update. To compound the problem, Microsoft's computer system
they use for customer service has conveniently denied my repeated attempts to pay for said repair, saying I entered my information wrong. The card is good, I checked with the bank. There is money in the account, I checked with the bank. I was also informed Microsoft cannot
use paypal to attempt this payment. I am being told by Microsoft that they cannot do anything if the system wont accept my card info. So to recap, I accepted a mandatory system update that complete bricked my previously flawlessly working xbox360 s console
and Microsoft is saying there is nothing they can do. Anyone else having this problem? Please email me at

I use Paypal for all my downloads and DLC and never had a problem.

Quick question - Is your 320 GB HDD an official Microsoft item as numerous 3rd party HDDs have a tendency not to be recognised?

Also, I agree with Paraffin Alien in regards to the unofficial HDD issues (I still own the Original design Xbox 360 with the 20 GB HDD and I use Flash Drives instead of buying a high capacity unofficial HDD).

Have you tried re-installing the update via USB or CD?

The console wont boot up. The disk tray wont open. So to answer your question, no.

 

when powered off, tap the eject button, the console will power up and the tray will open, place the burnt cd in with the update and it should detect it

 

I highly doubt it was anything to do with the update that bricked your console. The update went through just fine on each of my 360's. It's more likely that your 360 was already on its last legs and the update just happens to be what it was in the middle
of when it died.

 

That's quite weird. If it means anything, I did the update on my sister's 4GB Xbox 360 S and it started to make loud noises during the download and install. I touched it and it would stop, but it freaked me out. It works though so I have no idea.

Your best bet is to get a repair request going on it, because it sounds like it needs to be repaired.

 

Update: I was not able to open the disk tray when the device was turned off. It would make the noise as I touched the button, but not open. After playing around a bit, I turned it on and tried the same... it opened. I inserted the disk I burned after a gamer
suggested to do so. It worked! I now have a working 360. It loaded the system update just fine from disk. It blows my mind that not one of the 7 people I spoke with at microsoft over the last 3 days ever came up with this.

 

Lesson learned, ask the community before the "experts".

An open try error is quite commen and can be repaired..... Your assumption it was the update that caused issues is incorrect.
