XBOX 360 S All Profiles gone & won't update

Haven't used systems since Christmas Time. I turned it on this AM and got the standard update message. I selected yes and system spit out error message about not being able to update, check network systems. etc. etc. (you know the drill). I restarted
the system and selected NO to update. It went to main screen and ALL and I mean ALL profiles are gone, all apps - GONE, all pins - GONE. I tried to download my profile, no go need to update system. I can put in a DVD movie, it plays fine. I put in an
XBOX 360 game, the game plays but I can't save anything.

It is a XBOX 360 S 4 GB, MFG Year: 2012. The 4 GB Flash Drive is NOT replaceable unlike the earlier Trinity Boards. My question is if I plug in an OEM Microsoft XBOX Hard Drive will the system update and can I reinstall all my Profiles, Apps, and Resent
my Pins.

Xbox won't let me make a new profile or delete anything

My Xbox 360 S isn't letting me delete anything, update Xbox Live, or even make a new profile. It won't let me save anything because I cant update it. I just bought it used. All it has is the 4gb hard drive built in. What can I do to fix it?

 

XBOX360 ELITE unable to read hard drive and/or download update.

Upon start up, XBOX 360 logo screen lags longer than normal. Then "Update Required" screen appears and I am prompted to download update to connect to xbox live. System update reads " You do not have enough storage space to take this update, please connect
an xbox 360 storage device with at least 190 MB of free space". At which point I show no hard drive space and all of my profiles are gone. I cannot log in to xbox. Assuming all of my space is gone (120 gig drive), would all of my profiles disappear? or
has the drive crashed? Thanks!

 

What is OEM? Idk how you could have used the console with just a flash drive! Anyway I don't see any reason why you can't try the other drive: you can always redownload apps and profiles (if they are a connected to Liv)...game saves as well ( if they
are on the Cloud).

xbox 360 slim made in 2011 the 4 GB flash drive simply plugged into a socket on the main board and were replaceable

What I wanted to know that since it appears the the Flash Drive (memory module) is shot is if I put in a Microsoft Original Equipment Model (OEM) hard drive will the system ignore the dead Flash Drive and update with the hard drive in. There are a number
of aftermarket hard drives that are suppose to work with the xbox 360 but have some proprietary issue when use with actual Microsoft games and updates. Before I shell out over a $100.00 for a Microsoft Hard Drive I just wanted to make sure it will solve the
issue.

I don't use the xbox 360 for gaming, I use it for Apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, MLB.TV and the DVD player to watch movies. As I said the DVD player and the game that came with it work fine except I cannot save the game results.

 

Ok...after looking it up I can't find any direct answer. There quite a few videos on installing a new hdd however. One mentions using thumb drives as well. Perhaps call support and see what they say.

 

This is just an update. I purchased a aftermarket Hard Drive and a USED 250GB Microsoft Hard Drive for an XBOX 360 slim. After I installed the aftermarket hard drive, I still could not update the system or reinstall any of my profiles and/or apps. However
once I install the USED Microsoft Hard Drive the system started and I was able to update the everything, download my XBOX Live profile and reinstall all the apps I lost.

So it looks like the answer is YES, if you install a Microsoft Hard Drive in the XBOX 4GB Slim system it will ignore a bad 4GB memory module but an aftermarket drive for the XBOX will not work correctly. I know the aftermarket drive is good because when
I connect to my desktop PC it works fine.
