Xbox 360 S add on internal hard drive maximum size

Please help others with the same problem. I tried to install 2 different 320 GB internal hard drive into the slot on the side of the unit but both would crash the system during the install of any game. I tried a 250 GB internal hard drive instead and all
of the games now install flawlessly. Can anyone assemble a flow chart that will help with the largest drive you can use because of the make, model, and serial number series that is printed on the machine to help ease any other gamer from having to make 3
trips or purchases to get something that works.

Missing memory unit (internal storage) for Xbox 360 S

If you are referencing the Xbox 360 S 4GB internal memory then this option was not available on all Xbox 360 S consoles please see the link below and quoted text.

The Xbox 360 S 250 gigabyte (GB) console has an internal hard drive, which can be removed and replaced.

The Xbox 360 S 4 GB console has internal flash memory, which is not removable. The internal hard drive can be purchased separately.

The Xbox 360's internal memory is only 4GB. Anything else in regard to an Xbox storage device is external. How to safely remove or add an Xbox 360 hard drive:

The Xbox 360 S model came with either 250GB or 320GB hard drive installed, along with the 4GB model which had the empty bay to add a hard drive later.

The largest hard drive released for the Xbox 360 was the 2014 500GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 E model. These hard drives are fully compatible with the S model too.

Bear in mind that there are a huge amount of fake Xbox 360 hard drives available online from private sellers on sites such as Amazon and eBay. These drives invariably enter high street stores eventually as second hand units. despite being fake, they will
still have official looking packing, and will show as 'Microsoft' when viewed in the system settings. This is probably the reason why the 320GB hard drives didn't work correctly.

 

As Ob Power has already stated, too many fake HDDs on the market.

Just make sure you are buying an official Microsoft hard drive.

You always have the option to use an external hard drive though.

Seagate make ones specifically for the Xbox One and 360 which you can buy in either 2TB or 4TB sizes.
