Xbox 360 S 4GB powers on but freezes before getting to the home page

Thanks for the reply, Chris. I followed all directions to get the update on a FAT-32 flash drive, but nothing has changed. When I start the console, I can hear the spinning of the internal hard drive, but it's constant, with no change at all, just the same
steady spinning with nothing happening, so I don't think it's even reading the flash drive to install the update.

Any other options?

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. Did your console have internal storage? One thing we can try would be updating your console offline. To do this, you would either need a USB drive or a Blank CD/DVD. Here is a link with step by step instructions

Unfortunately there isn't much else that can be done unless you get an official hard drive or just get another console. It seems the internal flash memory in that console is corrupted since it cannot pass system checks during boot up and as XBF Chris mentioned,
Microsoft no longer repairs Xbox 360's.
