XBOX 360 S 250gb model Freezes / Locks up during game play

System is about 3 years old, adult owned and very well maintained, The exhaust ports are not blocked, and the device is in a well ventilated area. I have confirmed the fan is working. Whenever I start playing LEFT FOR DEAD 2 - Online Campaign (yes, the game
is old I know) sometimes I can play for hours, no issues. Then sometimes I can play for 30 minutes and the entire system locks up. The controller no longer responds to any of the buttons, including the center button. Also, this game is not a disc, I downloaded
the game from the Marketplace.

Other issues with this particular game, I can be in the middle of online match / campaign, and my screen goes black, and the game restarts from the beginning (game intro).

What's going on here? Why is the system locking up? Is the hard drive corrupt? Are there any drive tools that can be run?

Xbox keeps on freezing

My xbox 360 250GB Final fantasy VII edition (if it matters) keeps on freezing. it's not cold or loud, it just freezes during gameplay several times, help please!

Hi there.

From your statement I can assume that you do not get any error codes at all. Game freezing or crashing is usually related to corrupted data if not overheating or the temperature of the console.

There are several steps that I can suggest you can try:

1. Clear your system Cache - You can do this by going to your Storage devices which can be found under System Settings. Just highlight your hard drive and press Y. Select System Cache and then clear it. Clearing the system cache should flush out leftover
data contents from previous installations, downloads, saves, etc.

2. Look for corrupt data on the hard drive. Corrupted data sometimes affects the game, so go to the Games & Apps folder on your storage device and check for any corrupted items and delete them.

3. If this has been happening only on the Left 4 Dead game, you can eventually try and redownload the game. That way you can start with a fresh copy.

4. If the issue persists after doing the above steps, then the problem may not be software related but it could already be your hard drive. Try to play the game on a separate storage device perhaps and check. If it works without issues then it could already
be your hard drive that may need to be formatted or replaced.

I cannot know for certain if I've played these games on this specific console. It is a 250GB hard drive that came with the Xbox 360 S model.

The game is known to freeze on PS3. What Xbox 360 console you have? Arcade, elite, pro? If so upgrade to the new SKU's - they are the Slim 250GB or 4GB. They have better architecture, design, which help solve technical issues compared with earlier models.
You got the red ring of death on older models because of poor vents. The Slims have improved vents and run more quietly and are slightly smaller. I have this game on my slim 250GB console and it has never freezed on me. Your console might freeze if your playing
hardcore multiplayer games though.

Ok let me clarify this one more time, this is not a system freeing up issue. This is specifically with Madden 2013, on older Xbox 360s or the 4G slim models. For some reason without a 250GB or larger HDD the game has a chance to freeze on some systems. Not
all 4G or older Xboxs but the same variable between the people having the problem is a HDD of <250GB on one of those systems.
