Xbox 360 running slow except when playing games

My xbox starts up slow, my dashboard takes about 2 minutes to load and freezes for a couples seconds every time I press a button with it open. All menus take awhile to load also. Now I've tried cleaning up my hdd, I've cleared my cache, deleted my account
and redownloaded it. my xbox ran faster without my hard drive in it but I'm not going to have 160gb of game data gone just to play fine so is there anyway to speed it up without having to reformat my hard drive?

Lag in Borderlands II.

The game was installed. Xbox Support had another look at this thread and they were able to help me. I re-wiped the cache/game data (Except saves) and uninstalled the game. When running directly off the disc, it works fine, but as soon as I install it it
lags again.

Just to note: I was playing alone, because I don't have a Gold membership at the moment.

And all other games work like a charm, except for the frame rate drop, when playing Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, but that is because there is a threshold which limits the frame buffer when playing split-screen, so the console doesn't overload.

Xbox service..

I usually get SERVICE ALERTS status on the xbox stores when testing the xbox live connection. All of the services are up and running except for the xbox stores. SERVICES, ACCOUNTS, and MATCHMAKING are UP except for XBOX stores. I usually play NBA 2k14,
I'm having problems with the 2k server when playing mycareer mode. Does the Service Alerts has anything to do with the game I'm playing???

Try checking your hard drive for corrupt files.

Corrupt files will have yellow exclamation marks by them. Delete any corrupt file you find.

My console had a corrupt avatar file once and had similar symptoms to you.

Also try going to storage then system and delete the content cache file and marketplace data

I have GTA V for Xbox 360 and the graphics look amazing. It should look so more like real life if and when they release it for Xbox One. 1080p water reflections. Remember game installs from disc are mandatory for Xbox One. I doubt Microsoft will make an
exception for the game developer for GTA. Xbox Support recommends not installing the Play disc for the 360 version and cuz of this, loading times are super slow.

if you are running a game close it down xbox slows down download speed when a game is running to reduce lag.

http://speedtest.net on a computer on the same network as your console, take the test there, and post the result image back here? Have you also checked to make sure your router firmware is up to date? Once
you've done this will you post back with your router/modem, make and model! This information will help us get a better idea of what's going on here.

For MW2 online you can have a lot of problems with the hacked servers. So try with another game online and see how you connection are. Modern Warfare2 is not like in the begining. So try with another game and say if it was better or not
