Xbox 360 repair options? Three flashing lights.

Hi. How do I get my xbox 360 repaired? There does not seem to be a repair option via Microsoft.

It has three flashing red lights, which all searches indicate requires repair.

Also, is it possible to transfer the game data off of the xbox, if it can or cannot be repaired?

You can check the warranty status of your console once you have registered it on the service centre website. Microsoft did extend the warranty for three red lights to three years from the date of purchase but that period ended a little while ago so a repair
would be the only option, or maybe purchase a newer model console.

Sorry to hear it. The fact that you have 3 flashing lights suggest that you have an older FAT console. Unfortunately those consoles are no longer valid for repairs due to their age. Only the newer Slim consoles will have an option for repair.

I would recommend purchasing a newer console with hard drive and official Xbox transfer cable to move your content over.

Can I transfer data/content even if the console does not start up??

 

If you had a hard drive for the console then you can purchase an official Xbox transfer cable and transfer the content from the old drive to the new one without issue.

Please ensure that it is an official Xbox transfer cable though as there are 3rd party ones out there. 3rd party transfer cables have a habit of messing up both hard drives and the 3rd party cables are not covered under any form of the Xbox warranty.

Is that an external hard drive? I know it had a 250GB hard drive, but it was internal.

So I'm not clear if anything can be transferred off with a hardware error.

I think I'll try to get it repaired next week....

The only consoles that have a hard drive that could be considered internal are the Slim consoles. Those are smaller drives that would fit into a housing on the right side of the console behind the vent near the rear.

Older FAT consoles have a hard drive that attaches to the left side of the console and runs the full width of the console. A release catch can be found at the back end of the drive.

The older FAT drives can be connected to the console via the transfer cable in order to transfer data to the new drive.
