Hey there, ive been through xbox chat support who put my through the basics like "reset modem and routers" blah blah which hasnt resolved this issue so i thought id come here. Since about 4 days ago my xbox live hasnt been able to connect to my router. It
simply doesnt even bother trying to connect when i sign in and then when i test it, it comes up with an error. When strolling through my configurations i noticed the IP had changed from a standard 192.x.x.x to 169.x.x.x and my subnet mask had also changed
and my gateway was blank. The 169 is apparently a local IP as it cannot receive the proper one or something along those lines. I have a standard BT HomeHub 3 with an Xbox 360 elite and white adapter. This problem only seems to be happening on my xbox, all
other devices connect fine with the correct IP. I have tried port forwarding, resetting all settings, opening DMZ, using my physical address of my laptop to enter into the xbox settings, changing channels, manually entering my IP info and pretty much everything.
I was referred to phoning my ISP and they seem to think im willing to pay £10 a month for a tech support guy to talk to me about it when i only have one problem so yeah ive come here.

    :)

Ok, that is a cable modem. Meaning that device converts the cable signal to a network cable connection with a public IP address.

For testing what you can do is to unplug the power to the cable modem and turn off the xbox.

Then plug the network cable from the Xbox into the network cable port on the back of the modem and turn the modem back on.

After all the lights are up on the modem, then turn on the Xbox and go to the Network Settings on the xbox.

It may take a minute for the cable modem to give the Xbox an IP address but you should see a different IP address than these types below -

    - 10.x.x.x

    - 172.x.x.x

    - 192.x.x.x

All of these IP addresses are what a router would hand out.

Your IP address should be different then those I just posted when the Xbox is connected directly to your cable modem

    - Don't post your IP Address here -

If you get an IP address of 169.x.x.x then that means the Xbox is not getting an IP address of any type. And you might see that initially when connecting your Xbox to your cable modem.

Sometimes it takes a minute for the cable modem to pass that public IP address through to the Xbox

Sorry to hear it. I'm more inclined to believe that this is being caused by your isp as well. If your IP address was the same for a long time and now it's changing then perhaps they switched you over from a static IP to a rotating one. This may be one
that need to go through your ISP specifically.

Either that or try connecting via ethernet directly to your modem if possible.

  5. Thanks for the reply, I've actually managed to fix this problem myself by going over and over settings. For some reason I had to uncheck my IPv6 in my router settings for this to work. Don't understand why this changed but if people have this problem in
the future follow these steps and it might work:

Go on your computer ->start - > Control Panel -> network and internet (or similar) -> Right click your router (not the Local Area Connection, make sure this is the one you connect your xbox too) -> uncheck the IPv6 and enable IPv4.

    @WukaWakaBangaYa hey hey

Did You tried resetting Your Xbox 360 Network Settings to Factory Defaults?

Right now Your Xbox 360 can't get IP address from Your router, using DHCP, this can mean, that something wrong with some internal Xbox 360 settings for network or that it can't communicate to router at all.

So our first step is fixing internal network setting issue, second would be fixing communication issue.

Cant Connect to Xbox live with Ethernet Cable

I never connected my Xbox to my PC. I was connected either wireless "which worked" or ethernet straight from the modem. The ethernet cable i used i could also use on my PC. So therefore i knew the cable was good. My buddy is a network tech and he told me
pretty much all the time if you get the 169.x.x.x IP that it means the port is fried.
