    xbox 360 reads the game, won't play


    My grandson has an original xbox360. It couldn't read the discs, tried cleaning the laser and it still didn't work. Took a different disc drive out of a RRD machine and put it in the one that couldn't read the discs. Now it will read the games but when you
    select "Play Game" the screen goes black for a few seconds and then goes back to the dashboard screen. Any help would be appreciated.

    Check if the 360 games you use are part of the backward compatibility list: Available games

    and if the game discs are damaged

    Sorry, but no one here will be able to help you. Self-repair like that is a violation of the terms of service, can get your console banned, and cannot be discussed on these forums. The disc drives are tied to the consoles they came with so you can't simply
    swap out disc drives.

    Hi,

    Can you confirm if your console can read DVD discs?

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD and Xbox One games are on Blu-Ray. The Xbox One's Blu-ray drive has a separate laser to read DVD's, if it has malfunctioned, Xbox 360 games can't be read and the digital download for BC games won't start.

    To test this out, try playing a DVD movie disc. In all likelihood these films won't play and that will confirm drive malfunction. If this is the case you'll need your console repaired/replaced.

    They aren't considering backwards compatibility. They are considering an emulator that will allow the Xbox One to play 360 games via streaming or downloading. It won't actually read old 360 discs, though.

    The xbox 360 i have will read and play any DVD but it will not play any games. I've downloaded the updates and installed them successfully. No games working at all, won't read the game disc and always switches back to play DVD.

    Can you help?

    Here are a few troubleshooters you may want to look through. the most common reason and Xbox 360 won't read a disc is if the optical lens inside the disc tray area that actually reads the discs is dirty. But these should help any ways.

    The best way to get that fixed if that is the issue, would be to either clean the disc itself with a soft cloth to make it easier to read or to take the console to a local electronics hobby store like a GameStop to get it cleaned up. Microsoft doesn't do
    servicing for Xbox 360's anymore and its really advised to not try and repair/clean up a console yourself.
