Xbox 360 problem

Hey i have a original Xbox 360 and when im connecting it to the Xbox app and then i pressed the console button and then it had a option for a new console and then it told me to write down the characters on my screen but there was nothing so i chose another option for a existing one and then i had to sign in to my account i did but still nothing so please help me how to connect with all this.
