XBOX 360 power

We have an XBOX 360S. When you push the power button to turn it on you can hear the "ding" noise but it doesn't turn on. I talked to the folks at Gamestop and they told me the Mother Board is shot. Any thoughts/ideas on what the best course of action
would be are appreciated.

What color is the power supply? Have you verified power to the device?

What happens when you do hit the button? Does the light stay illuminated? If so, it could simply be that there's a problem with the HDMI cable (either disconnected or faulty). If the actual light goes off too, it's likely the console is faulty.

You can register your console at
https://myservice.xbox.com/ and use that site to send it for repair; all the instructions you need are at the site. The repair is free if the console is within warranty; if the warranty has expired there will be a charge for sending it in for repair.

The light on the power button never illuminates.

 

If the power light doesn't illuminate, your console needs to be sent in for repair. I'd also never listen to anything GameStop tells you. It's like going to Walmart for car advice. They just don't know. Your console isn't receiving sufficient power, and
if your brick is fine, then it's on your console's end.

 

The light on the brick is orange. Should it be green?

 

The orange light on the power brick means that it's idle and waiting to deliver more power to the console, once it is turned on. Green means the PSU is delivering sufficient and steady power to the console (when it is on). Red means that there's a fault
in the power supply and that it needs to be replaced. Once it turns red, it will refuse to deliver any power to the console to prevent it from frying.

If the light is orange, your PSU is fine. If trying to turn your console on by any means, including the disc drive, yields no results, then the fault is in your console. I've seen 360's power buttons stop working, so people turn their consoles on via the
eject button, or the controller. If you've already tried to turn your console on by the other means I mentioned, then your console is indeed pooched.

I would recommend though, in the future, that you buy a surge protector. Not a power bar, but a surge protector. It ensures that your console receives a steady stream of power, with no power spikes or anything that could cause components to malfunction.
Make sure it's a good quality one, as the cheap ones sometimes prevent your console from getting sufficient power. Good luck!

 

I have the same problem. The system won't turn on at all. It will make the sound and light up, but won't turn on.

 

it seems like this is a common problem for xbox 360. I bought mine 2 years ago and never used it more than the occasional just danse for excercise. ill say maybe 20 times the most. today i turned it on and everything was fine. i plugged in my son new
game he received for xmas and the tv screen froze and the power button on the console turned red for a few second and that was the end of it. i unplugged the devise and tried everything that has been suggested. I am very dissapointed.

if anyone has a better idea to fix this problem, please help.
