    Xbox 360 power brick problem

I have an xbox 360 slim.

Today, while playing for an admittedly long session, my console suddenly shut itself off, making the same noise it would make when you would shut it off when a game froze.

After letting it sit for a bit, I tried turning it back on. It began to boot up, but quickly stops and turns back off.

The power brick "revs up" as if ready to turn on, but stops.

It has an orange light when plugged in.

At first, the plug made a static noise when being unplugged and when being plugged back in.

I tried using a spare power cable to see if that was the issue, but the same thing happened; the power brick "revs up,", but stops and the console turns back off.

It seems it may be the power brick itself, but I want to know if other people have experienced this and if there is a fix before getting a replacement brick.

    :)

Can I use an Xbox 360 slim power brick on an Xbox One

So I have not upgraded to an Xbox One yet, but I found one on Ebay for 218 dollars. The reason it is so cheap is because it comes without a controller and the power brick. I can buy a controller no problem, but that leaves the power brick. From what I have seen online, the power brick for the Xbox One has similar jacks to the one on my Xbox 360 slim. I checked online to see if the power brick would work with the One, but I found no information on it. Do any of you happen to know if it works?

    Hi there,

what color is the light on the power supply and on the console when trying to power the console on?

It turns green when trying to power on, then quickly reverts to orange when it fails to do so.

Hey Ghidorah14 sorry to hear that you are having problems. How old is the power brick? Could you tell if it was getting hot while playing? You could always try blowing out all the dust in the brick. Sadly if that did not help, the brick itself could be going
out. You could always call XBOX Support and they can help you get a new brick if that is the problem.

What do you mean by 'revs up'? Did you buy the console new? Is the power brick a legitimate Microsoft power brick? I've seen a few counterfeit ones that have fans in them and those aren't great to use at all. Slim PSUs don't have fans, not sure about Super
    slims though.

    Xbox 360 power brick problem

The power brick is the one that came with my xbox 360 slim. It's a few years old.

When I say "revs up," I just mean that it makes the noise of powering on, and then abruptly stopping.

I did not notice or feel any heat while playing or when it first shut itself off.

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's the brick. I just wanted to get some opinions before I go and get a replacement. Luckily, my warranty for this console hasnt expired, so I should be able to get a new brick no problem.

The light on the power supply activity doesn't indicate there is a problem with the power supply. (Only a red light or no light is an indication of a power supply issue)

What does the light(s) on the console show when trying to power it on?

It could be heat with your console. Your PSU doesn't make any noise, or--it shouldn't. It has no moving parts. The only moving parts are the fan in your console and your DVD drive...and to a lesser extent your HDD. In any case use a can of compressed air
to blow out the vents at the back and sides of your console, top and bottom, and then do the same to your power supply. _DO NOT_ use a vacuum cleaner or any electric machinery to blow the air out. You can get a can of compressed air for a couple of dollars.
Your PSU appears to be fine, so it's probably your console.

The console lights up normally; when I turn it on, it's green, and the rings dont light up. I would assume if there was a problem with the console, I'd be seeing red lights.

Also, whenever I plug the power brick into an outlet or extension cord, it gives off static. As in, I can hear it when I plug it in.

I will try using a can of compressed air and see what comes of it.

I really dont think it's the console. As you said, the power brick shouldnt be making noise, but it does whenever I try to turn on the console.

I can record a video of what exactly happens if that would help.

I tried using a can of compressed air as was suggested to me. No luck.

Cleaning the console and power brick made no noticeable difference.

What you have to do is [Mod Removed - Please don't post self-repair help. See Forum Guidelines] and it should work fine

Wouldnt that void my warranty? Besides, I already tried using compressed air to clean inside of every single little air slot and nothing.

    Hi there,

please don't follow the advise given by XxCharGerzFanxX that will void any warranty and can have several consequences.

Yes if the console is causing the problem I would expect one or more red lights..

Do you have any friends or relatives with a similar xbox 360 console, to try their power brick on your console. Be aware that it must be the same type, since not all power supplies will have the same connection on the console.

If that isn't a possibility, I advise to contact Xbox Support, to see what they advise to try and or replace. To contact Xbox Support use
