Xbox 360 "Play Through Headset" distorts player voices?

I've had this probably for a very long time, but haven't bothered to deal with it yet.

Whenever I set my Xbox sounds to Play Through Headset, other player voices become very distorted and fuzzy. I'm able to avoid this by setting it through Play Through Both (Play Through Speakers being the other option) and then turning down my TV. Whenever
I do this voices are crystal clear.

It isn't a headset issue I don't believe because I've had this probably across many different headset, and it isn't a console issue because it did this on my old Xbox 360 also.

If there is anyone that knows why it does this, a fix would be great. I can deal with having it set through Both, but I can't adjust player voices as easily that way. I have to manually change it through xbox instead of just scrolling a wheel.

Granted I have gone through a few of the 360 headsets now since they're constructed almost as well as the 360 itself, I've used a normal mic and headset since I started playing online. I much prefer my own true surround sound system vs headphones, and I
think your way off to try and say that "most people won't play" when I'm pretty sure *most* people with a console don't buy an advanced headset.
