    I have some old games for the 360 that I would like to play on a virtual machine as my original console will no longer work. (it was damaged beyond repair when the hard drive caught on fire) Is there a place where I can buy the operating system separate
    from the console? Or can someone at least tell me how to image the disks in a way that an emulator can read?

    nope and nope and nope.

    you can play select 360 games on the xbox one, you cannot download the OS seperate.

    We cannot speak about emulation here unless it is on the actual xbox one.

    Hi,

    The system software (also known as the 'operating system') is somewhat limited on the 360. With read errors, It will report the same error regardless if the game is a download or being read from a game disc.

    It means either the download is corrupt, or the 360 hard drive is failing.

    Hi Angela,

    The last significant software update for Xbox 360 consoles was in November 2019 with the OS version 2.0.17559.0, so you appear to be on the most recent one. Refer to:

    Xbox 360 operating system versions and system updates | Xbox Support

    If anything, you can always reinstall the latest system update in Settings > System > Storage and enter the following button sequence from your controller:

    X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X.

    Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed. The console will then restart automatically and download the updates again.
