xbox 360 not turning off

about a year ago i sent my xbox off as the disk tray got snapped, in the mean time i brought another, when that came back i gave it to my sons and i kept the newer one, a few months ago when you shut it down either by the controller or by the button it never
turns off first try, ive checked that background downloads are off, ive left it to turn off itself after the time limit but instantly it turns back on.

any ideas? im not sure i can send it for repair on those grounds

just to add: generally, if your console is shutting off due to heat, you would see two sections of the ring light up red. top left and bottom left. also once you turn the console back on, you'd be presented with a message explaining that the system was
turned off due to overheating to prevent more damage. this is different than the RROD with 3 lights which indicates a full hardware failure, but eventually it can lead to this.

 

It's normal IMO. It sometimes takes a bit of time for the system to turn off especialy if you powerdown while using an app or game. Try to powerdown without an internet connection........ See if you get the same results. GOOD LUCK!!!

 

Yea, mine stays on for about 10 secs after i turn it off. If all else fails, i would pull the cord on the back. Not saying you should do that, but that's what i would do.

 

Cloud storage updates when you turn off your console,there could be some corrupt data there that`s stuck in a loop and won`t let it shut down.

Try disabling cloud before shutdown to see if that`s where the issue is.

 

It'll do this if you have cloud storage turned on. Do you have your controller plugged in while shutting down? If so, it'll usually stay on to charge the battery sometimes.

 

Mine does this from time to time also.
