XBOX 360 NEW HARD DRIVE

Hello,

I bought my Son a New Xbox 360 Hard drive he did have a 4 GB one attached however I pushed the button took his old one out and put the new

Microsoft Certified 250 GB new one in switched the Xbox Back on and nothing. Just told me a new update is available I clicked Ok , then told me Storage Space is needed. I skipped this message next time went to Guide > settings>storage there is nothing there
it's does not recognize it at all. I came back downstairs and hooked it up using my Purchased Transfer cable to my PC it came up as a storage device so it's alive. But if I put it into the Xbox 360 it does not get recognized. If I take it out and out my Son's
old one back in all's good my Son's profile comes back up sign in off he goes playing his games. What's Up ? My pc can pick it up as a storage device but the Xbox 360 it was bought for does not acknowledge it can any help as it was one of my Son's XMAS 2014
present's but I kept it in good faith but by the time he opened it the return window if it's faulty has shut. There Escape clause for them is I should have tested it first then wrapped it up.

adding hard drive to 4GB?

Hi RegularRain8, Is your current Xbox 360 the original or the new S edition. They are different Xbox hard drive accessories. There is a basic process for installing an existing hard drive to a new Xbox 360. Check out the guide here

Hi, I guess you tried removing and refitting the hard drive, be sure it clicks into place securely.

Hopefully you didn't format the hard drive when you connected it to your PC or configure it on the Xbox as that would then render the hard drive useless as an xbox hard drive.

Thanks for replying yeah tried a few times replacing this Item bought it from Amazon they think the problem is basically it was not an official hard drive. And because I bought it as an Xmas Box they have waved the must return before 30 days issue. And
have fully refunded me I have just got to send it back to them. Thanks for replying

you can take the hard drive from one console to another no problem.

There is only restriction to this... the only way you can use the hard drive from the old style XBOX 360 on the new "SLIM" 360 is the following:

Using a USB transfer kit, you can plug the old style xbox hard drive into the new SLIM XBOX. You can then transfer stuff to the new XBOX. Note that in this setup, you can't use the old style hard drive for anything other than transferring stuff over.

If both XBOX 360 are the old style, there is no problem, just pop the hard drive off one 360 and plug it into the other one.

Note that disassembling the hard drive unit (to take the bare drive out) is not supported, and is a terms of use violation.

Since both of you have helped me greatly, I come again to you asking for your sage advice.

It looks I will definitely need a new Xbox. I have found some decently priced Xbox 360 consoles online, but they come decently priced because they all have 4 GB hard drives, which creates a problem because I have a 500 GB hard drive. I'm pretty sure the
hard drive is not an issue with my old Xbox 360 (I took it out and attempted to power on the old Xbox 360 with the same results), so I definitely want to preserve the old hard drive memory. If I buy one of the Xbox 360 consoles with a 4 GB hard drive, do I
then need to purchase another 500 GB hard drive to format to the new console, then transfer data from the old hard drive to the new hard drive?
