Xbox 360 losing sound and showing green static overlay - overheating?

Hi all, the title says it all. My Xbox 360 Elite decided to cut the sound and give me some faint green static on top of the game I was playing earlier (GTA V).

It happened about an hour and 45 minutes into playing. I turned it off, let it cool down for a bit and then tried again. Twenty minutes of play later it did it again. I've heard a lot of horror stories about inadequate heat sinks around the GPU in Xbox 360s
    - does this situation sound familiar to anyone?

I've had GTA V for two days now and my girlfriend's currently on holiday, so I'm pretty addicted and want to get as much out of my system before she comes home. So I've put the Xbox in the freezer for now to let it cool down, just wondering if I'm right
in guessing that this is overheating, or are there any other possibilities/solutions?

    Cheers!

    :)

Xbox one party chat sounds awful

Quality for xbox one party chat sound like static with a little echo. Sound like game chat on the 360.

    Hey there PSYCHO,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your console.

When the console powers itself off, is there a light showing on the Power Supply?

If you are showing that the power supply light is green and this issue occurs with the power supply plugged into different outlets it sounds like there may be an issue with the console itself. If that is the case, I would recommend

    setting up a repair

Putting your xbox in your freezer is quite possibly one of the worst things you could do.

Does sound like it's over heated & the video card has possibly fried.

I would say your only option is to send it to Microsoft for repair.

Does it do this with all games?

Could you walk me through the thought process on why the freezer is the worst place for the Xbox? Anyway, last night I took the Xbox out of the freezer after half an hour and played without problem for another hour and 15 minutes before I went to bed. Then
this morning I turn it on and get five minutes of play. Very frustrating.

You have ice in a freezer, ice is made out of water, water & electronics don't mix.

Discussing self repair is not allowed on the forums.

OK dokey, won't mention self repair anymore.

By the way, the only reason water could get into the xbox due to freezing is if condensation formed on it after taking it out of the freezer (like when you take a cold beer out the fridge). I took that risk because the weather's not really warm enough to
make that happen to plastic and tiny bits of metal right now.

But just putting something in the freezer doesn't mean it's going to mix with water. Try leaving the lid off your icecream next time you put it in the freezer - it will still be icecream when you next take it out, without any added water.

Anyway, thanks for your advice. It was all games, not just GTA btw.

You still get tiny pieces of ice getting into your console & when it melts you have water in your console.

As long as the temp is above 0c you can still get condensation, the temp difference from inside the freezer compaired to outside the freezer will also cause condensation.

Putting any electrical device in a freezer is just a really bad idea.
