XBox 360 Local Profile Gamertag Update Problem

Hi,

I linked my daughters XBox 360 local profile to a new Xbox Live account and was successfully assigned a random gamertag. When I did this all her stored local data got updated to her new gamertag as the owner.

However, my daughter didn’t like the assigned gamertag so we updated it using our one free update from the XBox web site. The site said it would take effect the next time we signed in.

Well now from the XBox 360 it still has the old gamertag and she is no longer able to log in. She also no longer has access to all her saved games like Minecraft worlds that she created. On the XBox it says to download the profile to fix this. If i do this
it will create a new profile with the new gamertag but all the old saved game data will be inaccessible because it still is owned by the auto generated gamertag.

Is there any way to fix this? What i expected was the gamertag update from the xbox website be synched to the associated local xbox 360 profile.

So if i re-download the profile it won’t create a new local profile but link it correctly to the original? What i really need to happen is all the ownership rights be updated with the new gamertag.

Here is a picture of the error I am getting when I try to sign in.

Hello Audiophile,

We understand that you're experiencing an issue concerning an inability to sign into a Microsoft account, along with not being able to access the saved data for that account.

Removing the profile and adding it again does not affect the saved data for that account, nor
does it affect what the account owns.

You can safely remove the profile, and because the email attached to the account specifically belonging to one account exists, you'll need to provide the proper credentials and all data should be restored.

Try it out for us and then let us know if this helps.

Sometimes re-downloading the profile fixes the problem. If you are worried about it making a new account, then simply copy the profile that is on the Xbox to a storage device (USB Stick), then re-download the profile to the Xbox. The new gamer tag you
created should show when you have downloaded it.

Downloading the profile again linked it to the correct local profile so it worked!

All the saved app data like Minecraft worlds is accessible!
