Xbox 360 keeps shutting off mid-game

Recently the Xbox 360 has been shutting off mid-game. It has happened three times in the last four days on two different games. The Xbox will shut off, but the controller will stay on. After the Xbox shuts off, I am unable to turn the system back on using
the controller. In order to turn the Xbox back on I have to unplug the system from the surge-protector and plug it into another slot. I have tested the surge-protector slots with the PS3 and there were no problems. Suggestions? This is an Xbox 360 Elite.

Hey mate, first things first, check to see if you auto-off is enabled:
support.xbox.com/.../console-turns-off-unexpectedly

If you don't have that enabled, there's a pretty good chance your power supply might be on it's way out. Have you noticed the light on the power source change? Try using the steps here to diagnose the power supply see if it's behaving as it should:
