Xbox 360 keeps crashing

Hi everyone,

I've been playing on my Xbox 360S 250GB since July 2011 with no issues but recently (over the past 6 months) it has repeatedly been crashing after about an hour or two when running a game off a disc (games on the HDD run smoothly with no issue). It
makes a lot more noise compared to when I first started playing on it and overheats to the point where if I put my hand over the fan on the side when it crashes, the air is scorching! I've hoovered it repeatedly every other day to see if that has any effect
but sadly nothing noticeable.

Recently I've placed the Xbox horizontally on top of some small blocks on each corner, slightly elevating it, with plenty of space to 'breathe' - same for the power supply. If it's any use, games that have crashed recently include; Gears
of War 2, Batman Arkham City & Origins and CoD Black Ops 2. Others like Halo: Reach & 3 and Dishonored - which I play off the HDD - run smoothly with no issue for as long as I play them.

I'm currently looking at DIY cooling methods and/or cleaning, but I want to avoid dismantling the Xbox straight away as I'd prefer not to damage anything. I would do so if necessary though. Hope my problem's been explain well enough for someone to
shed some light on the situation!

forza horizon 3 keeps crashing

my xbox keeps crashing fh3 but i can plays other games without problems. I already re-installed the game and the game keeps crashing. Can somebody help me??

 

What game u be playing when the new forums are being born?

Probably some Fable anniversary and will probably muck around on Fallout 3 as New Vegas keeps crashing my 360.

 

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the console. It is an older console now and more than likely is beginning it's death throes which would be the reason your disc based games are crashing the system.

If downloaded games play fine then can you try installing your disc based games to the hard drive to play them through there? When the system is reading from the drive it works a little harder. By installing the game to your hard drive it will read the
game off of the hard drive and only use the disc drive to ensure ownership of the game.

My friends and I have been having the exact same problem recently but worse today. It crashed 10 times on me today. 6 times paying GTA V online and 4 times playing Warface online some of these times have been when I am in the menus doing nothing, a couple
had been near the end of a long mission in GTA V losing all progress, extremely frustrating.

I clear all my storage device's cache at least once every day so this is obviously not the problem and I keep my xbox and power brick cool with a fan, so its not a heating issue.

It also started happening a lot to my friends and I before Xbox Live went offline for maintenance a month or so ago. This maintenance seemed to fix the regular crashing problem but it now has started happening again and is getting progressively worse culminating
in todays disaster.

So it seems microsoft needs to do another round of shutdown maintenance for Xbox Live to stop this crashing issue that everyone is having.

Hopefully microsoft/Xbox Live will give us an answer/reply/remedy and respond to our posts here as soon as possible so we can get back to uninterupted play on the best last gen console as soon as possible.

How old is the console?

 

liberty2k - Ok, first I would like to ask what type of fan you are using to keep your console cool? Is it one of the 3rd party types that plugs into the back of the console? If so, you should know that Xbox does not guarantee that they will work properly
with the system. Also, they do have a tendency to draw extra power from the console itself.

Also, you say that you've cleared the cache of all your storage devices. I would like to suggested removing all storage devices from your console and then restart it. If it works fine then, then add one device back into the console.

Rinse and repeat until the issue happens again. When that happens it means that that device is causing the issue.
