    xbox 360 internal hard drive malfunction


    When the most recent update first popped up and I attempted the download, it seemed to have messed up my hard drive. It has an internal hard drive. The system will not save any data. Space is not an issue. In fact, the system will not even delete anything
    from the hard drive. I tried to, it shows that it is gone and that there is more space, but then shows that it is as if I never deleted anything. I have attempted to format the hard drive and it shows the effort but then returns to the memory screen as though
    nothing happened. I have tried redownloading the new update, and have even tried to update by dvd and by usb. I have cleared the system cache several times and even done the lb,rb,x,lb,rb,x reset. It is as though there is no way for the system to remember
    any kind info or procedure beyond a 1 second memory lapse. When trying the manual update by disc or flash drive, the system gets stuck on the opening xbox screen after it asks if i want to update with the security from the disc. PLEASE! Someone give me an
    answer. If there is a way to just do a hard reset on the hard drive that would be awesome.

    There unfortunately isn't. This type of thing happens when the drive is on its last legs. I would recommend ceasing use immediately, and buying a replacement drive + transfer kit. In the meantime, don't use your drive to avoid data loss (if that already
    hasn't happened). I would also, before using the kit, put your HDD in the freezer for about 8 hours before using the transfer kit. This can potentially help recovering data off of the drive.

    Before anyone craps all over that suggestion--it can in some cases aid. Google if you don't believe me. I have personally used this option once, and managed to recover, albeit only a part of some family videos.

    It's likely because the hard drive you're using on the Xbox 360 isn't an official Microsoft hard drive. Only official Xbox hard drives from MS will allow you to run original Xbox games made backwards compatible on the 360 platform.

    Original Xbox games won't run on a 360 if:

    • You don't have an internal hard drive
    • Your internal drive is not official - knock off hard drives from eBay and Amazon won't run original games.
    • Your 360 hard drive is faulty

    About to stop using XBOX services if I don't get help.

    I would suggest trying a few other things to eliminate possible problems.

    First, try connecting to your Xbox 360 to your router with an ethernet cable. If the disconnects stop happening, then your problem may be with the wireless router, in which case, if it is the add-on variety, it may need to be replaced, or if it is internal,
    the Xbox 360 might need to be sent for repairs.

    Second, try saving your profile on a USB drive instead of the hard drive. Maybe the hard drive is malfunctioning and not reading your gamer profile properly.

    Hopefully this will help you narrow things down and find the problem.
