Xbox 360 internal hard drive corrupted

Thanks in advance for your help! I currently have a 4gb xbox E. Here's my problem.

So I was playing Skyrim the other night when the game began locking up. I turned off my xbox to let it cool down and went to go run some errands. When I came back, I was notified that I needed to install an update, but when I tried, I received a message
that I needed 190 MB of memory. I skipped the update and attempted to go into my hard drive to remove some stuff, only to see that my drive is reading as unformatted. At this point, I also notice that my profile is gone.

After researching the problem online, It seems that the internal 4gb hard drive has become corrupted. I attempt to reformat it, but no matter what it is still reading as unformatted. So I go out, buy a 500 gb drive, slap it into the console. Updates
are applied, but the internal 4gb drive is still unformatted. I install Skyrim on the new drive just fine, but when I try to install the expansion content from disk 2, the box freezes up after it asks me to install an update. My suspicion is that some portion
of the update wants to install on the internal hard drive, and the box locks up when it realizes that it can't.

    Here are my questions:

    1) Is it possible to just leave the internal hard drive as is, and just install everything on the new 500 gb one?

    2) Is my above belief about updates installing on the internal 4gb hard drive correct? The result of which being that I will not be able to install and play some games and content until I ship the thing off to MS to get fixed?

    Thanks again for your help!

    :)

  2. My Xbox 360 S is freezing! HELP!

My Xbox 360 S 4gb is freezing in the start up. I know what happened, my 4gb internal memory is corrupted. I wrote a post here like 2 months ago, and they give me a verified answer..... "You can use a 250gb hard drive while your 4gb is corrupted."..........
I take a look on how much a 250gb hard drive cost. Its very expensive. So... I'm thinking, if I can use my USB Hard drive... so instead of my Xbox 360 booting to the corrupted 4gb, it will boot to the USB hard drive.... WILL THAT WORK????

Xbox 360 download does not want to finish.

    Hello PhantomVT,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that the installation for Mass Effect on Xbox 360 is restarting when it gets to 80%. We recommend checking your Xbox 360's hard drive and your USB drive for any corrupt files. The corrupt files
are indicated with an exclamation mark. If you see any corrupt files, please remove them and clear your system's cache. If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, we suggest

    installing the game
on the internal hard drive. Once the game has been installed on the internal hard drive, you can

move it to the USB drive
. Be sure to let us know the results PhantomVT!
