XBOX 360 Hardware issues?

Problem with my xbox 360 and I cant figure it out. They system boots up with out a game, get the xbox screen and menu, when playing a game (have tried many) the screen distorts after a while, flickers and breaks up, pixelates and it drops the remotes. It
plays moves ok so its not the dvd or tv. Also lost all of the saved games. Any ideas or things I can try?

Sounds like a hardware issue if it's "breaking up" and "pixellating" as you say, as games put more strain on the hardware than movies. Possibly the graphics chip is becoming defective if what you're seeing is

GPU artifacting. In this case, the only course of action is to have the Xbox 360
repaired by Microsoft (if it's still under warranty), or replaced entirely.

Well, I am thinking its the hard drive. When I load some of the popular games I play the error message says initializing server and freezes. The graphics are just the end result. Plays movies ok.

It sounds like your Xbox 360 is getting a lot of use, and as such, it's probably generating a lot of heat. Is the console in an open environment, and are it's fans and ports unobstructed? You may want to check the fans (with the console off) and see if there's
any dust buildup.

Also, you may want to try clearing the cache to help the dashboard load time. You can do so by following these steps:

Clear system cache

System Settings > Memory > Highlight HDD, Press (Y) > Clear System Cache > Yes

This would be a problem with the disc reader in the console possibly, if you can perform a power cycle by checking this:

support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console and see if that helps, however if you still get the same result, I would take the console back to the place of purchase to see if they can fix it or sort you out with a replacement.
