Xbox 360 hard drive

Hi, excuse my ignorance but I'm old and know very little about consoles.

My son has an Xbox 360 with no hard drive so I need to buy one, would a standard memory stick be acceptable or does it have to be a specific make?

What specific Xbox 360 console do you own? Do you have an official Xbox 360 hard drive attached? In order to play Original Xbox games on Xbox 360, you need a console with an official Xbox 360 hard drive since the software required is stored on the hard drives
themselves. 3rd party hard drives or non-official Xbox 360 hard drives will not work.

And you'll be good to go. Just make sure they are the official Microsoft HDD drive.

Probably would be wise to get a HDD anyway, some late gen 360 games took to including 'install discs', like one of the Forza games

@DumbestSole. Which 360 is it you have, is it the older shape with the hdd that clips on the side/top???

Like already said above best to get a Hardrive as your son will be mighty dissapointed if he buys a newish game like bf4 amongst others only to try and play it and realise it needs an install.

You might find you will run into difficultys with that as it is an unofficial device. You will find you cant run original xbox games

Xbox games and video games in general are so big in gigabytes these days that Xbox Games at least need a external hard drive for the Xbox 360 or Xbox One depending on how many games you want to play and usually kids want to play all the games these days.

Is your Xbox 360 hard drive an official hard drive? If you bought a '360 Hard drive' from private sellers on eBay or Amazon, then it's likely that the drive is not official hard drive.

Only official Xbox 360 hard drives from Microsoft will play original Xbox games using backwards compatibility. Only they contain the files in order for the emulation software to work. This will not effect Xbox 360 titles.

It's likely because the hard drive you're using on the Xbox 360 isn't an official Microsoft hard drive. Only official Xbox hard drives from MS will allow you to run original Xbox games made backwards compatible on the 360 platform.

Original Xbox games won't run on a 360 if:

You don't have an internal hard drive
Your internal drive is not official - knock off hard drives from eBay and Amazon won't run original games.
Your 360 hard drive is faulty

This problem usually occurs when you have an Xbox 360 hard drive that is not genuine. This can happen if this Xbox 360 hard drive was purchased from a place like eBay or Amazon Marketplace and it was not an original Xbox 360 hard drive.

Only hard drives manufactured by Microsoft in their packaging have the emulation files needed to play original Xbox games. The hard drives that are purchased from eBay / Amazon Marketplace are usually fake/knock off hard drives which can only play Xbox 360
games.
