Xbox 360 Hard Drive not recognized.

I have a 16g xbox 360 hard drive that has many of my accounts and saved data on it, and when connected to my xbox 360 it is unrecognized.

I have attempted turning the console off and on again, waiting multiple days, removing and reconnecting my hard drive, testing on another xbox 360 console, etc.

Both of my 16g usb drives still work and show up when opened in the storage portion of the xbox menus; however my 16g hard drive will not be recognized. I have another 16g hard drive that when connected to my xbox is fully usable, meaning that my xbox is
fully functioning and it is 100% my hard drive failing.

My main question is this: Before I attempt to reformat my hard drive is there ANY method of transferring data from an old xbox 360 hard drive that is not recognized by my console to another storage option. I really really really do not want to lose my borderlands
2 and borderlands 1 saves and profiles. I have about 5 accounts that I would not be capable of re-downloading as I have completely lost all of their information.

Again I really hope there is some way I can transfer data from an unrecognized 360 hard drive be it a transfer cable or some other method. Any advice is welcome.

Requires a hard drive.

You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.

Using Portable Hard Drive, Not Showing

I connected my 1 TB portable hard drive to the xbox 360 via the USB port and it is not recognized. Is there something I am doing wrong?? Why won't the 360 recognize the hard drive??? Do I need some special software on the hard drive???

Transfer cable although if your HDD is faulty then there is a good chance it wont work

sorry to say if the system cannot recognize it anymore than there is really nothing you can do it sucks but that is all we can say.

I have heard of 3rd party drives not working properly after a update but not OEM factory ones

@ Red Shift1 - the console will recognize the old drive as a usb drive only. The problem with that is once the user set it up like that it will never be recognized as a full on xbox hard drive again.

@OP - in order for the BC to work, you must purchase the 250 gb hard drive for use with the 360S.

I'm trying to add a hard drive to my xbox 360 because it did not come with one. ever hard drive I have tried the console does not recognize the hard drive. what are my options?

Yeah the hard drive is set for the Xbox 360 only and won't be recognized by the PC without a reformat.

nope if the system does not recognize it as a 360 hard drive anymore there is no way to fix that drive sorry.
