Xbox 360 hard drive no longer detected by console

Hoping someone can help.

In an attempt to recover a deleted game save file for my brother, I connected his Xbox 360 hard drive to my pc. Windows prompted me to choose a partition style to switch/convert to in order to initialize the drive, options were GPT and MBR. I forgot which
one I chose, but I was able to switch to the other through disk management. The data is still on the drive, but the Xbox 360 will no longer detect the drive.

Do I need to change the partition style back to something specific for Xbox 360? If so, how can that be done?

External Hard drive not recognized

My brother's external hard drive that he has had for about 9 months is no longer detected by his Xbox one. Is this happening to anyone else? Any advice?

You can try turning off the Xbox, then remove/reinsert the hard drive. If it still isn't detected, there is a chance the hard drive has died.

Xbox hard drives are not meant to be seen by a PC. There is no legit way to make it work for an Xbox again.

 

Unfortunately, the Xbox uses a proprietary file system that normal Windows PCs are unable to read.

Also, you can't change it back to the proper Xbox file system with regular Windows functions.

While there are unofficial tools to "properly" use a Xbox 360 hard drive on a PC (which you would have to have used before changing the partition style), these tools change the hard drive in a way that can be detected by regular scans via Xbox Live,
and can get your console completely banned from playing online.

I'm sorry to say that, but you have essentially "destroyed" your brothers hard drive.
