XBOX 360 GOLD MEMBERSHIP

Out of the blue last week my family members have been denied access to Multiplayer activities and being advised to take out their own Gold Membership??? Whats going on?? They have been downgraded to "FREE" or Silver membership.

Up until last week my Grandson who is on my membership could access Multi Player games with his friends on my xbox and on others. Now suddenly he can only talk to them blind??

What has changed??

Xbox Live Gold Family Pack No Longer Available

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Live Gold Family Pack is no longer available for purchase, after several people noted its disappearance earlier this month.

“The Family Gold offer is no longer available for purchase,” a company representative told Joystiq. “The Family Center experience with settings management, allowance granting, child activity reports and family subscriptions management are still available for current Family Gold members at this time.”

Asked about the reasoning behind this decision, he replied: “We continually evaluate our business focus and work to offer services that make the most sense for our customers and Xbox.”

The Family pack was originally introduced in November 2010 and was a $99 bundle that included four year long Gold memberships for four family members, along with functions to monitor and control each family member’s content purchasing and viewing settings via the Family center.

The Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack gives you four 12-month Gold memberships for less than the price of two. You can easily convert an existing Xbox LIVE Gold membership, or you can sign up for a new Xbox LIVE account and Gold Family Pack membership.

Note You will get a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership if you have time remaining on your existing Gold membership.

With the Gold Family Pack, you can:

Give family members an allowance of Microsoft Points to redeem for films, games and more.
Manage your family memberships, activities and Family Settings from the Family Centre.

Microsoft just ended the Family Plan for good

Microsoft sent this announcement via e-mail to all Family Plan members. This is terrible for people who have more than one console. Also note (in bold) that this answers the questions about the Gold Live sharing on multiple consoles. So if you plan to throw out your 360's and game library and have you family glued to one Xbox One then you are good. Once you go that friends house your family cannot play in Live on either console unless you have an additional sub. Terrible.

Xbox Live Gold Family Pack Conversion to Individual Memberships
As a valued Xbox Live Gold member, we'd like to thank you and your family for being part of the Gold community.

We continually evaluate our offerings and are always working to provide services that best meet the needs of our customers.
Starting August 27, 2013, we will be converting each activated account on your Gold Family Pack to an individual Xbox Live Gold membership to prepare for new upcoming features on Xbox Live Gold. Rest assured, each individual membership will work on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Through the new Home Gold feature on Xbox One, a single Xbox Live Gold membership will allow anyone in your home to enjoy many Gold features like multiplayer, access to Gold entertainment apps, and more on your Xbox One.*
As a bonus, we will give each converted individual Xbox Live Gold membership from your Gold Family Pack an extra 3 months of Gold (in addition to the time remaining on your membership term).**
Before your memberships convert, you can still add family members to your Xbox Live Gold Family Pack, for a total of up to four accounts. However, any unassigned secondary accounts will no longer be accessible after your conversion. Please be sure to update your secondary accounts here.
After your memberships convert, the only Gold Family Pack features that will no longer be available are activity monitoring reports and Microsoft Points allowances. Activity monitoring reports will deactivate at the time of Gold Family Pack conversion, whereas the Microsoft Points allowance feature will no longer be available after the next Xbox 360 system update. The Xbox family gold plan is no longer offered so each Xbox Live GamerTag will now need to have their own Gold membership to play Online on the Xbox 360. Every account that was on a Gold Family plan was converted to a normal Gold account with the remaining
time and an additional 3 months. You can read more about this change
here.

We just bought my 11 year old son a new Xbox 360 after his rabbit chewed the cords to his old. He's been playing in his room since last week and able to play with and talk to his brother in NC again. So, I decide to splice the wires and fix them so that
we can have the old Xbox 360 in the living room to play and watch movies on Netflix. Well, that didn't work out very well because the Xbox 360 works just fine now BUT the family plan is gone and can only be gotten if you spend hundreds of dollars on the new
Xbox One! Now each gamer tag has to have their own account which would cost $10.69 per month each if we want to play as a family?! That's just crap! This is just Microsoft being money hungry and trying to strong arm people into spending outrageous amounts
of money on the new console in order to have the family plan. That's not fair. We don't have that kind of money and it's bad enough that we have to pay to go on Live in the first place. My daughter has a Playstation 3 and she doesn't have to pay to play
games Live on the internet and you can have multiple players. Maybe it's time to take back the BRAND NEW Xbox 360 w/kinect that we bought and get the Playstation 3. It'll be a shame though because our son will be upset that he can't talk to his brother or
play the games with him anymore. Shame on Microsoft for not giving anyone a choice. SMH

Hey, badmadsuperdad That's probably because you had auto-renew enable when you had the family plan so it carried over to the main account but not the others. You can read all about the change here: support.xbox.com/.../family-pack-convert-individual-member-faq

I agree that this was a poor move on Microsoft's account. There is no way I am purchasing 4 Gold memberships at $60 a piece. Guess we'll be playing a lot more of the PS3.

rev, keep in mind that you can purchase gold cheaper by purchasing prepaid cards. A lot of online retailers have them on sale for $30-40 a lot. Also, you no longer need gold to use apps. So if you have anyone who doesn't play online they don't necessarily
need a gold subscription.

The Family Pack was removed from the 360, this is true. With the Xbox One console, a gold membership can be shared throughout any family member on the console.

If you are staying with the 360, keep your eyes out for deals. Quite often stores have the gold membership cards on sale for between $30-40 per card.

It's true that the Family Pack is no longer offered for the 360. However, keep your eyes peeled for deals. Lots of stores have gold memberships on sale for as low as $39.99 or better.

You could also consider getting an Xbox One. Gold memberships are shared through all family members on the console.

Nothing to my knowledge has replaced the Family Plan. It would be nice if the Xbox 360 Gold policy was the same as the Gold Policy for the Xbox One. Where you can share your Gold membership with up to 9 members in your house on the your One console. For
the 360, each member needs their own Gold account.

When playing on the 360 each person would need to have a Gold membership if they wanted to play online.

If you were using an Xbox One only one person would need a Gold membership to play. That membership could be shared amongst all family members on the Xbox One console.

I just wanted to add in here that if you are thinking of purchasing an Xbox One at some point in the future you can share one Gold membership through all family members on that console. Simply have the Gold membership owner head to Settings on the Xbox
One then scroll right until they see Add To Family.

NOTE: A shared membership on the Xbox One does not transfer to the Xbox 360.
