xbox 360 games with gold games require a credit card on file

Why? My gold subscription is active and in good standing - why do I need a card on file when the game is supposed to be free?

Why is a credit card needed to download a FREE games with gold Xbox 360 Game?

Just to clarify... I have an Xbox One. I want to download a FREE games with gold Xbox 360 game, this requires me to have a credit Card on file why? Especially if I dont need one to download Xbox One games on the Xbox One but for 360 games on the One I need
a CC yet if on the 360 I dont need a CC!!!! SO STUPID!

 

Xbox live gold 360 games will not download

Get message that I need a credit card on file to download xbox 360 live 'free' games. I do have a credit card on file is the problem. I do not get this message when downloading the 'xbox one' games to my xbox one. Just the xbox live gold 360 games. Suggestions?

 

If you're trying to queue them from the website, the website requires a payment method to be on file even if the game is free. It's been that way since they changed from points to currency for some reason.

If you download it from the console, you shouldn't run into that issue.

 

So how do I do get, for instance, PvZ without a card on file?

Sorry, but unless the system gets updated, that's all you can do.

 

What is your situation? What I mean is, why can you not just download it through the console? I'm just curious because for me, that is the quickest and most convenient way.

Not to pile on but if you list a payment form (card or Paypal) the system will be happy and you won't be charged anyway. If you are concerned about other users on the console maybe you can block them from purchasing.

On XBOX a transaction, even a free one, is classified as a purchase therefore their system needs to see a form of payment. It may be difficult for under-age users but this is how it works. That is why XBOX introduced parental controls - so only authorised
purchases can be done.

I don't have an xbox 360 console any more, I traded it in when I bought my xbox one. I removed all payment types from my xbox account when microsoft support told me to after my account got hacked and I have never re-added them in case it gets hacked again.
Since then every purchase I have made has been via store bought codes.

Point is, a game that comes as part of the games with gold programme, where no payment is taken at the point it is registered and where microsoft already have payment in the form of a store bought gold subscription should not require further payment information
to be processed. Xbox one games don't, so why do 360 games?

Your only option is to have a payment option on file or to get a console

You cam also have 2 factor security i know i do with my ms account app

Dont use common passwords or use the same password as any other service this keeps you from grtting phished

I also use an ms account authenticator which checks everytime i sign in in an unkniwn connection

Make sure you dont keep the dont ask me again box checked so it checks everythime

 

Ok, first of all I completely understand and at no point did I dispute backward compatibility is in a testing phase.

Secondly, I was advised BY MICROSOFT THEMSELVES to remove any and all payment methods attached to my account.

However neither of those issues were pertinent to the original question I asked, which was "Why do I need to have a credit card on the account?" If you don't know, then fine. but stating "Thsts the way the system works" is of no help or use to anyone.
