    I used to have an xbox 360 with an xbox silver account linked to a gamer tag rousingtick83. I'm going to upgrading to an xbox one soon and i want the to use the same gamer profile as i had a couple games and dlc i had bought over the marketplace. However,
    my roommate last year had an xbox one and so i created a profile on his account and linked it to the same email i used fro my xbox 360. i don't really care for the profile i created on his xbox as it was really just so i could play games without messing up
    his saves. Now whenever i log into my microsoft account with the email it's only linked to the new profile that i don't care for and i can't find any mention of my old one. Is there any way i get my old one to be recognized on my account again?

    Ran into an issue with backwards compatible games. (Please Help.)

    Your old gamertag is in the xbox 360 cache you have to go to settings and remove the linked account before you can add the new one. This happened to me 2 when i changed the lame tag microsoft assigned me. Even if you put the correct information and passcodes ot wont download your new gamertag until you remove the old linked account

    Your going to want to call Xbox support and see if you can try and get into that account with your gamertag. They do need to verify your account, so hopefully they can help

    Yeah,you can not request or reserve a gamertag.They also don't do "mass wipes" anymore due to the new-ish system.

    As of August 2016 if a gamertag is not used on any of Microsofts systems for 5 years then it may be freed up.

    As of August 2019 if the account linked to a gamertag does not sign in to any Microsoft service for 2 years then the tag linked to that account may be freed up.

    You have to also remember that gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live,so just because a gamertag looks like it isn't being used on xbox live it may be being used somewhere else in the system.

    Your only option is to keep checking the gamertag to see if it becomes available.

    Hi jlhbubba1,

    We do have different options to set an email address the Primary email account linked to your Xbox profile however, there are certain grounds that we also need to consider.

    -Existing account has no Xbox Live profile ( If moving the gamertag using an Xbox 360 )

    -The email account doesn't have an active Microsoft Account.

    -Not an email account's domain is not affiliated with Microsoft (eg Hotmail, MSN, Outlook)

    These reasons are just a few.
