xbox 360 freezing repeatedly and game unreadable

this just started this morning, my xbox(old fat) froze 3 times in a row before even loading the dashboard and once starting halo reach. then halo gets the unreadable disc error after i finish a match(where it gives u credits and such) when it did this i
cleaned the disc ten installed it a usb drive, but it skips when starting up now.

any ideas on how to fix or whats happening?

I was wondering when the next patch is coming out to fix the unreadable disc error and game freezing.

Skyrim runs on one xbox but not the other?

Been trying to play Skyrim on my 360, but I keep getting a "disc is unreadable" error. I tried the disc on the family xbox and it works fine, and the two other games I've tried on my xbox seemed to work. I had Skyrim running as recently as two days ago,
although it did keep crashing and freezing. Suggestions?

Sounds like the optical drive is about to give up the Ghost.

Before it goes completely out, I would purchase a 2TB USB external hard drive and copy all the disc based games to it. That way, the next time you're ready to play say. Halo Reach, the optical drive only has to read the codex from the disc itself and the
game then launches/plays from the external drive saving a lot of wear and tear on the optical drive. Pretty much in the same way as current gen (X1/PS4) does.

Check the disc for scratches along the disc data strip. (Inner ring in disc found just above the strip that reads xbox xbox xbox)

If it's scratched in that area, often a buff with a microfiber cloth will polish it up will suffice.

I tried a different save slot and it didn't freeze at that spot. Would the game freezing on me repeatedly like that mean that my console is broken

Is the game you are playing on disc or digitally downloaded?
