Xbox 360 freezes and won't turn off when it does, what's going on?

I just started playing my 360 after a few months of it being in my closet and have been playing Skyrim only. I've come across several instances where the system will freeze during load screens or even during gameplay and nothing works not even the power
button, then also where it would freeze but the power button would work. So I have to unplug the console for a few seconds then plug it back in if the power button doesn't work.

Here are the things I have done to try and resolve the issue:

- Clear up space on my HD

- Clear the cache

- Delete and redownload Skyrim

Please offer any insight you can in this issue.

Xbox One won't turn off

Xbox was working fine the first day, but then I'm sometimes not able to turn it off by ussual holding Home button on controller and selecting Console Off. I do that, but then screen freezes and console won't turn off. I had to hold X button on unit for
few seconds to restart it or pull out the Psu from the unit. In some cases it turns off normally, so I am bit puzzled what's going on. Anyone?

 

Xbox One won't turn off automatically

I have my Xbox One set to turn off after 1 hour of inactivity, but it won't turn off automatically at all. It used to turn off automatically, but about a month ago it just stopped doing it. Anyone know what's going on?

 

Hey mate, Skyrim is actually known to be a game that jams up a lot, it's just how it is, but in regards to when the console freezes and the power button doesn't work, are you only pressing the power button once and then reverting to the power cord?

With my 360 E slim, on pretty much any game when it freezes the power button will not work straight away. Have you waited for about 30 seconds and hit the power button again? Or give it at least 3 presses with 30 seconds intervals? This is what usually gets
mine to switch off.

I also seem to remember with Skyrim I had at least one instance where I have to switch it off at the power.

Yeah I'll try the power button a couple of times and then resort to the physical cord itself but I never waited 30 seconds to hit the power button a second time. Everything I have read online says that Skyrim is known for doing this sort of thing which isn't
surprising, I've actually run across some hiccups in the game itself. One thing I read online that seems to be working is to make sure the power block has room to breathe. So I moved mine out from behind the stand and everything seems to be working fine right
now.

If I do have anymore problems I'll try what you said about pressing the power button with 30 second intervals. I'm hoping it's just the power block idea.

Now worries, I just wanted you to have a little piece of mind that my consoles power button hardly works the first time when it's frozen!

Definitely having the console and power brick in a well ventilated area can help with overall performance, though generally having the game installed to the HDD is the best way of preventing freezing issues (if it's the disc copy that it).
