XBOX 360 freezes after a min

I have not used my 360 in about a year. Wanted to play it few days ago. No luck. It started and promoted for an update. After that GTA 5 asked for update. Then started playing and with in 2 min the picture was gone. Tried HDMI direct to the TV, no luck.
Was getting red ring at one point. Connected xbox component cable and able to get a picture. However xbox with only function for a min or two before freezing. Just stops responding. No disk in the tray and hard drive removed as well.

Is there any way to fix this? What could be the problem?

We have lost your Tv Signal

Well I just managed to set this up again using the new Xbox One I received

Took a while for the Xbox to show a picture and the Sky box was freezing up

After 30 min it's finally done

Sounds like your machine is dying. This is just what my old one did before it went RROD. your only options would be to send it in for repair or buy a new one like I had too.

 

If it is a fat console it maybe time to put it out to greener pastures and buy a new one. If you were to get it repaired it is probably gonna have issues again down the track.

 

i am just interested to see if it could be fixed. Its not that much different from the desktop. Must be way to troubleshot it?

Or just shoot it?

 

Well you can't repair it yourself or get it repaired in a local shop, because those actions violate MS terms and will get your console banned. And last I heard it was something like $100-$120 to send an out of warranty console into MS for repair. And since
you can buy a new 360 for $150-$170 range that might be the better option. Of course if your 360 is less than a year old it should still be under warranty and shouldn't cost you anything, except maybe shipping, to get MS to repair it.

 

Same happened to my old one and it was an error on the main board. The cost to repair it is expensive so best option would be a new console

 

When you get the RRod it damages the mainboard(motherboard) due to extreme heat, melts the lead free solder and warps the board. As what was said it above me it would be cheaper to go out and buy a new console than to send it in. Especially if it is out
of warranty it will cost a fair bit to send it in. If you were to get it fixed unauthorised it would only be a matter of time until it RRod's again. If you were to send it into Microsoft they will just send you a refurbished one which would be a wildcard.
Cutting your losses and buying a new console would be the cheapest and the least troublesome.

 

I keep reading about the overheating. But i dont think that my case. I have not used the xbox in about a year. It was fine before that. Never played a lot when used a box. Its not covered by anything and very open. So i dont think it is overheated.

It started right up, asked for updated and then choked. RRod is not consistent. Maybe one in every 5 or 10 boots. Thats why i would like to troubleshoot it?

 

Well you could google your symptoms and maybe find out whats' wrong. But even if you find out it's a bad disc drive for example, you still can't fix it yourself and would still have to send it in to MS for repair. Whatever the problem is, if you did fix
yourself you'd get banned when you went online with it. So, in the end you're left with sending it into MS for repair or buying a new one. If it only happens 10-20% of the time, maybe you should just live with it. It might not ever get any worse.
