Xbox 360 Freeze when connected to network

Hi all!

I have a problem with my Xbox keep freezeing when connected to a network. I cannot say if the problem is related to Xbox Live or not.

This is the deal:

When I start up my Xbox 360 it usually runs fine for about 5-10 min. After that the screen will freeze, and there is nothing I can do to fix it. I have to reboot the console, and after about 5-10 min it will freeze again. It does not matter if I play a game,
or use Netflix, or just turn it on and leave it as it is. It will freeze. No red rings, no real heat coming from the box, no nothing...

If I instead remove the cat 5 ethernet cable - no problems at all! It is now possible to play for the whole day!

What have I done?

Well, a lot of things. First I thought the Xbox was dead, something like the older models that overheated, so I bought a used Xbox from a friend. Same thing happend again.

Tried to format the new hdd to have som clean settings. Then used my downloaded profile. Same problem.

Formated again and just made a "test" profile on the blank hdd. Same problem.

Changed the network cable, same problem.

Used only a memory unit , same problem.

Formated the unit, downloaded profile, same problem.

Removed smartglass from windows 8 computer, same problem.

Looked over the settings in the router, following this: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44869.0 , same problem. (ports 53,80,88,3074 open btw, when testing the network settings
in the Xbox everything is fine)

Cleared the system cash - 10.000 times, same problem.

Removed the profile connected to live and downloaded it, same problem.

You can basically say that I have tried to do every step of troubleshooting with no solution in sight - except for the one that is unplugging the network cable itself.

So, if anyone of you have or had a similar problem, please write a few words about it!

I cannot just blame the Xbox since it clearly seem to be network related, but then again, everything else is working just fine! The Xbox itself seem to be ok, as the problem is exactly the same on a similar Xbox. Both boxes are the 120gb elite model.

Xbox freezes when connected to Internet via ethernet

That doesnt make any sense - You dont pay for a Xbox 360 and expect the ethernet not to work - Right?

I reset the router to factory defaults and it still freezes when connected via ethernet

I manually configured the internet setup on the xbox and it still freezes via ethernet

When I disconnect ethernet and connect to network via WiFi it does not freeze

What is causing the ethernet connection to make the xbox freeze?

I am racking my brain and cannot figure this out!

HELP!!!!

 

Connection problems

Go offline forget wireless network controller connected and it still freezes. 4 different controllers 3 different wires yet when connected to the internet all of the controllers work fine

 

Sorry, I do not know how to edit a post, if possible.

So I tried a few more things... connecting a quite long network cable directly to the router, instead of passing through a switch in the living room. (actually the router is also in my living room, I just want my home to sound bigger). As of now, it has
been running for about 12 mins, kind of a new record. So it must be one of the following, of which I have to look closer into, the printer that I disconnected, the switch, or a Sonos connect, which is the latest thing connected to the switch.

However, I cannot see a connection of the newly connected devices and the Xbox that keep freezing.

Also, what could such a device do to the Xbox that will make it freeze without even handing over a small error text onscreen?

Anyway, I will continue the testing with rebooting (disconnecting and back again) the switch, and maybe the Sonos, and then reconnect the original cable to the Xbox - the one that has been working for half a year since installing the switch. But that is
tomorrow. I will keep you posted with any news.

Ok, problem seem to be solved. I cannot say other than it is my own fault. It seem like the switch, a TP-LINK TS-SG1008D, caused the problem. When resetting it by unplugging it for a short time it all started to work fine. It becomes clear that I did not
try this, even if I am pretty sure I did...

However, we have had a few power outage this period when the xbox have failed, so it might have something to do with it all.

However, I still cannot get why the xbox need to freeze completely just because of a failed switch! Very strange

I replyed to this once (again) already, but it does not show. If this will be a double, please forgive me.

Ok, so I was 100% sure that I tried resetting the switch, but because it worked with another cable directly connected to the router I did it once again. I unplugged the switch, a TP-LINK TS-SG1008D, for about 60s and now it seem to be fine! Except for another
problem with the Xbox profiles (here:
forums.xbox.com/.../1743937.aspx).

However, even if it is working now, I do think that it is strange that a failing switch can cause the Xbox to freeze completely.

It might have something to do with a power outage we had a while ago. Maybe things booted up in the wrong order or such.

So, even if that is a normal thing to do - rebooting all the hardware - make sure you include the hidden switch also

Ok, I write once again as the content of this keeps getting erased

I was very sure I had tried resetting all the hardware. But, the only thing I didn't reset multiple times was the switch, and because it was working with the cable directly to the router I unplugged it for some time. When powering up the switch again it
all works fine!

I still cannot understand why the switch caused the entire Xbox to freeze, but I'm glad it works now.

We have had some power outage here, and that may have something to do with it - maybe the units went online in the wrong order or so.

The switch is a "TP-LINK TS-SG1008D" by the way.

Thank you for your tips! However, I have done so in another case, and they are, as always, claiming they are not blocking any ports at all.

But, as said in my third post in my monolog ( ), resetting the switch actuallu solved the problem. I was so sure I had done that once, but clearly I had not.. So shame on me I guess.
