XBOX 360 FALSE PING TIMES

So, since the new dashboard update, we are allowed to see network statistics. My problem is that the xbox is clearly giving me false pings! In other words, it is clearly lying about about my network.

I have literally over 30 screenshots on my phone from the supposed "network statistics". Every single one has my latency as 75 ms (with the exception of a few that appeared over 140ms).

The reason this is so frustrating and annoying is that my phone (using WiFi I should add) is always giving me 25-25 ms pings from multiple servers. Multiple PCs and laptops (both wired and wireless) give the same results. Pingtest.net always gives me an
A rating with no packet loss, ~30 ms ping, and ~2ms jitter.

This reminds me of the times when xbox was clearly being DDOSed. When running a network test, it was trying to tell us that it was our fault (pointing at our network as the problem).

My question is, what is with the clearly false pings? I mean, there is no possible way that the xbox can get the very same millisecond ping 30 times in a row.

It most certainly seems as if whatever ping we have, the lowest ping will only show up as 75 ms. Is this again to make the consumer think that it is their problem, not with Microsoft?

Kotaku has since edited that response out of their old article, the 24 hour line is now gone. Phil Harrison today stated that that is false, they have not yet defined the time it needs to connect to 'ping", but it will not be once a day.

 

Post your ping times!

The ping provided by the Xbox in the Network tab has
no meaning at all, it is pinging the Xbox servers in Washington where the Microsoft campus is. People who live on the other side of the world (or in your case a different state) also ping to those servers and this can give a false image
of the actual ping they have in games.

If you want accurate ping I suggest going to
http://www.speedtest.net/ and choosing a local server.

If you have any connection issues or experience lag during gameplay I suggest making a new post stating those issues for troubleshooting purposes

 

Also, another note, it took me like 30 mins to finally post this. And well what do you know, xbox status now says that there are some problems, although nothing with the site.

 

It would make sense that the Xbox 360 test for basic IP connectivity (ping) against a server located in Seattle WA, as for the Xbox One. This would also make perfect sense in regard to your additional test, using pingtest.net, which by default, select the
server that is based on best ping.

Use pingtest.net to measure your machines/NICs round-trip time, but don't use the default setting. Instead, change the location to a server located in Seattle, WA and have us know the outcome.

You can also use the traceroute feature on your console, which would give you a more accurate outcome, since it use three ping for each hop, to determine if there's a slow link in the chain.
