xbox 360 external HDD not working. Possibly hacked?

You have a counterfeit drive. It's a fake. The Xbox isn't detecting it because it's a fake and it's starting to fail. Even if you do manage to format it and let the system write files to it, it's only a matter of time before it does this again. Your best
option is to buy a real Xbox 360 HDD. Not from eBay.

Today I tested the drive on another xbox. I know i said it was empty but it was still full. Games were listed in "my games" but they didnt run(it said something like "can't launch game"), but this is probably because that xbox is moded.

I havent been answered! The moded xbox isnt even mine i just tested it on one because the only other person with an xbox i know has modded one. I found out that the hard drive is working properly. The problem is that i got an update that has no record of
existance. I think that someone tried to hack into my xbox( the non modded one). The reason why i said the disk was empty is because i didnt know that format was unknown(i didnt get this info, i misunderstood the guy that checked hdd's content on a computer).

You have been answered though. The drive is a 3rd party drive and not an official Xbox hard drive. 3rd party hardware is not supported in any capacity.

Unfortunately we cannot help you here and the only option you have at the moment is to purchase an official Xbox hard drive.

Any discussion regarding modding isn't allowed.

You're a sitting duck. Once you plug your drive, USB or otherwise into the Xbox 360, the modded file system/console modifies your drive. So it doesn't matter whether the console is modded or not, your drive is still modded. Format your drive on a non modded
console, and please stop using modded consoles. You're ruining the fun for everyone :|

Well it detects USB's. Sadly i don't have any spare hard drive so i can't test that.

I have normal xbox 360 drive. Sorry if title is misleading you by saying external. I wrote external because internal is the one you can't take out and i don't know how to call the other one. If you don't understand here is the image of hard drive I have:

Addendum: Could you please post back with images of your hard drive that you take? Frequently, hard drives purchased on eBay can be not official drives, and if you take a picture of the top and bottom of it, I will be able to let you know if it is or not.

You will need to load the images up to a picture sharing site like OneDrive or one of your choice, and then post the link here on the forums.
