    Regarding the recent xbox 360 update, I had a quick question regarding the use of external storage.

    I have an xbox 360 slim 250GB - I was wondering if you can install and run games on external storage and if there is any performance impact on doing that?

    I have an xbox one and run all my games off of external storage and have a slight performace benefit, obviously this is a USB 3.0 (5gbps) interface. The xbox 360 is usb 2.0 (480mbps).

    If anyone can answer this question it would be greatly appreciated!

    What is the most affordable external hard drive for X1?

    Definitely going to get Witcher 3: Complete Edition and a external hard drive at Best Buy on Thursday. I have a question to ask so which brand has the most valuable external hard drive for Xbox One: Stargate or WD? If not, then what's the best option to buy? Thanks.




    The physical copies of the games will work while the save point is on the external hard drive and X1 is connected, am I correct?

    External Hard Drives: De-Formatting From Xbox One

    I am going to tell you how to remove the formatting on a External Hard Drive from a Xbox One.

    Requirements:

    Xbox 360

    1. Insert external hard drive into Xbox 360

    2. Go into System

    3. Go into Storage

    4. Press 'Y' on External Hard Drive (Will be called "unformatted device")

    5. Click on Format

    6. The External Hard Drive will now contain the Xbox 360's formatting.

    7. If you do not want the Xbox 360's formatting on the External Hard Drive, all you need to do is format the External Hard Drive on a computer. Otherwise, if you don't care that the Xbox 360's formatting is on the External Hard Drive, then ignore this step.

    Hope This Helped Anyone Who Did Not Know How To Remove An Xbox One's Formatting From An External Hard Drive!

    xbox 360 external hard drive question

    For those interested, I spoke to microsoft support, who assured me that there would be no performance degradation. I also dug out a usb powered 5400rpm hard drive and connected it (I understand the internal xbox hard drive is 5400 rpm also). I ran some
    tests and found the load times to be almost identical. I can't comment on running a 7200rpm hard drive or SSD as I have none available. If anyone gets the opportunity to try this I'd be interested in their results.

    Issues with installation

    I'm gonna be more specific: the game doesn't accept installation on external storage. Whether it's flash drive or external hard drive, the game isn't meant to install on external storage connected through USB just like Need for Speed Rivals on Xbox 360.
    You need to install it on an internal hard drive (media hard drive). The link I provided to you aren't external hard drives; they're internal hard drives for the Xbox 360:

    Requires a hard drive.

    You have to have an external hard drive plug in. It does not have to be 360 just reformat it. External hard drives that plug in the USB are not recognized as a hard drive for the 360.

    The real question is, can you store your games on the external hard drive, once it's enabled? I believe you can store media on the external with a 360, but if you 'install' a game, it has to be to the internal drive.

    Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with using an external drive for more storage on Xbox
    360. As per your question above, it varies on the drive. For example, if the External HD is only USB this will be powered by the console. If the External HD has a USB and power cord then the source is coming from the plug and not the console.
