Xbox 360 External Hard Drive has crashed twice in the past 9 months

Back in November, I turn on my 360 and install a system update. Started up GTA V, tells me I need to install disc 1. Weird, since I had done that back in September...so then I check MY GAMES, which was now empty. Balls. Sucked it up the first time and re-formatted
the HD. I bought the Microsoft external hard drive back in October 2012.

Now today....system update.... Insert Disc 1 of GTA V. ...All of MY GAMES (apps, etc) are gone, etc.

I get it, I need to back up my info. But what's with the random wiping of my hard drive? Anyway to recover this, or am I ***?

Seems I'm not alone here with this problem.

Hard drive problem

For the past few months my hard drive would just crash on my xbox while playing games. Recently it has happened more often. I have a SATA 1.0TB hard drive. Is there a certain setting that's causing the problem or is it the hard drive itself. I have a lot of storage on their that I would hate to lose. I'm sure its not an overheating problem because I would turn the hard drive on for the first time that day and it would crash in the first few minute. Please help if you can, its annoying the crap out of me.

 

External Hard drive not recognized

My brother's external hard drive that he has had for about 9 months is no longer detected by his Xbox one. Is this happening to anyone else? Any advice?

 

hey sorry to hear that. please note it is not typical for the drives to wipe or clear them selves. I have had two since the launch of the 360 and this has nit happened. what might be happening is that the drive might be on its last breath and in the process
of failing. would strongly suggest backing up to clouded storage or an external USB drive here is procedures if it helps...
