  1. Xbox 360 Extender Connection Failed

So, I've been using my xbox 360 as an extender for about 4 months now without any issues. The xbox 360 is in my bedroom with hardwired connection. The windows media center pc is in my living room with hardwired connection. All working well for the past few
months. This past weekend, I made a clone of the SSD on the PC to switch to a smaller SSD. All the programs on the PC after cloning the SSD works fine as far as I can tell.

Sunday afternoon I tried connecting the xbox 360 to WMC to watch some live TV. However, it failed to connect. I uninstalled the extender on the pc and disconnected WMC on xbox 360. I tried configuring it brand new so many times only to get to the last step
of "extender connection failed" message. I use windows firewall and even tried disabling the firewall to make sure something isn't blocked. Even with firewall off, I got the same message.

At this point, I'm completely lost and don't know how I should proceed to get the xbox 360 extender working again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

    :)

    WMC Extender Fails

PC: Win 7 Premium part of a AD domain.

Router: AEBS configured for NAT-PMP for ports 88 and 3704

Xbox 360+Kinect: Updated with latest bits yesterday.

While adding extender in WMC Windows event ID 538 is generated with error "......extender was found in the network but the UPnP search for extender failed...."

Pretty much looked around for a solution but nothing helped yet.

Let me know if domain membership is causing the issue.

    Thanks

  4. Xbox 360 Extender Connection Failed

Hey there, WhirlingPrism49! I'm very sorry to see that WMC isn't working for you now after getting a new hard drive! This is definitely an odd situation, and I hope I can help you sort this all out.

I don't see which version of Windows you are using, so I'm going to give you some terms that are for both Vista/7 and 8, if you are okay with that. Xbox 360 Extender Connection Failed :)

Please attempt to set up the Media Extender once more for me. Immediately after, I want you to grab an error code. It's in a weird place, so I'll give you exact steps to get that.

On Windows Vista/7, you will want to hit your Start button and do a search for "event viewer"; if you are on Windows 8, you will want to hit your Start key to search in the Tile view, and look for "view event logs". Open up this program, and let it load.
You will want to click on the arrow/plus sign next to "Applications and Services Logs". Under there, you will see a Media Center option; select that. Once in there, you will see rows in the top, center part of the window. There will be a "Level". Look for
the one that is closest to when WMC failed to set up. It should be Level Error or Warning. Then scroll over to the Event ID column. This is going to give us our error code.

Post back with that and we'll look into what is happening! Hopefully we can narrow this down quickly for you so you're back to watching your videos. Xbox 360 Extender Connection Failed :D

  5. Thanks for the reply.

I got it working today. I did a clean install of Win 7 x64, updated all drivers, and all windows update. WMC wasn't working with Live TV setup. I found the solution from thegreenbutton. I had to make some changes to a host file so WMC could download the
setup tv files along with the guide. Afterwards, xbox connected.

Can you answer questions for me? I followed your instructions and I'm getting a 20000 time out error.

I leave my xbox360 on all the time because when I disconnect, I loose the connection and can't reestablish it.

Where is Microsoft Windows Media Center?

MS clearly stated months ago that there would be no media center extender functionality. Only option is to connect a 360 as an extender via the TV in a HDMI port.

    Example: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/17161/article/xbox-one-not-a-native-media-center-extender/ Yeah sucks.
