Xbox 360 Elite controller stopped working on PC since last W10 update?

Hello,

I did post this on the Microsoft forums and they sent me here.

I've been using this Xbox 360 Elite controller for a while, it has worked flawlessly and when plugged in, the light still lights up and everything.

It was working perfectly without a single problem, until that is the last Windows 10 November 1511 update which I installed.... Since then the controller has not worked at all. I can see it in the device manager, I can see it in the control panel and devices,
I've even uninstalled the controller, rebooted and let Windows reinstall and now it does not work.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am completely confused what is up and there are no actual Windows 10 drivers to download manually and install, so I need some help.

I now cannot play some of the games I like to play which makes it super easy using a controller.

Xbox One controller broken by Windows Anniversary Update

My Xbox elite controller just stopped working yesterday on a recently purchased laptop but already had the anniversary update on it so I can't roll back to the previous version of Windows 10.

I've noticed now that in the device and printer section of the Control Panel I've got a Xbox 360 controller for Windows entry which isn't present on another version of Windows 10 install on my desktop PC so this laptop now has two entries the elite controller
and the Xbox 360 controller in Control Panel.If I disabled the Xbox 360 controller entry I get functionality on the elite controller but on a restart Windows the 360 controller reappears in Control Panel and in device manager.

Strange thing that for a week since I've had this new laptop everything was working fine in, now steam doesn't recognise the elite controller and windows hasn't done an update so how's this happened?

 

Remote stopped working after last update

Since the last update my universal remote has stopped working with my Xbox 360. What do I need to do to get it working again?

 

You could find someone with an Xbox One, plug it in, and it somehow restores it from "DFU mode".

 

DFU mode is available for the first xbox one controllers, the ones without the headphone jack. All other controllers post that including the Elite controller don't use USB DFU(Device Firmware Upgrade) mode for firmware update.

The first thing would be to try and see if a firmware update is available via the Xbox Accessories app on the store, and if that fixes the issue for you.
