Xbox 360 E regulaly wont connect to wifi router

I've been having the same issue for about a month and it's been getting progressively worse.

It used to connect fine, and nothing changed with the wifi itself, the xbox just started having issues for some reason and now 90% of the time my xbox 360 E won't connect to my wifi router. Whatever test I run (xbox live connection, PC connection, etc) the
test fails at the first step of connecting to the router.

The xbox can see my router, and it appears in the 'available network' section, but if I try to connect from there it asks for a WEP key, but the security my router uses is WPA2.

When I go to advanced options, specify unlisted network, and manually enter in the details and pasword of my router, using the correct encryption type, it still can't connect.

Usually I end up just disconnecting and reconnecting and eventually it manages to connect to the router, but now that's taking me at least half an hour each time I turn the xbox on, so it's not a solution. I also live with two people who work from home,
so while turning the router box off and on usually works, it's not really an option. I have also tried restoring my network settings to factory defults, which didn't help. I have deleted and re-downloaded my profile in case that was the problem, but that didn't
help.

Connecting my xbox to the router via cable is not an option, neither is using and unencrypted network, but my xbox is slowly becoming unusable and I could really use some help.

Can't get smartglass to connect

I have the same problem with my w8 phone and new cheap laptop I bought to use the smartglass app for bf4. neither will connect, both on same router( my phone uses the wifi on it) and I cant connect. both were able to connect on my 360

Need a bit more info here like do you have a modem or is your router a modem/router combo?

The router which provides your wifi needs to have ethernet ports to connect to your 360 or you need to bypass your router and connect direct to 360 as you said you tried.

If you have a modem you need to unplug it and plug it back in and make sure the 360 is set to a wired connection and not wireless still.

if the ethernet cable you have going into your router doesnt come from a modem but directly from a drop like how Verizon Fios is set up sometimes then you should just need to make sure 360 is set up for a wired connection and not wireless.

Your best bet is to buy an extra ethernet cable which it appears you dont have yet and go direct from router to 360 and not lose your wifi in the process by skipping the router. The cable is going to be under $10

Appreciate if you can post up the make and model of your router, and your modem as well (if this is not a single unit).

Can you make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware, by visiting the manufacture's website.

If you use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) on your router, then disable this feature and manually configure your router's wireless setting, such as, security method (WPA2), encryption (AES), along with passphrase and SSID.

Experiment with the following wireless channels: 1, 6, 11

I think the make is netgear, and the model is the Virgin Media super hub 2, and I'm fairly sure the router and modem are a single unit, and it's all up to date. We recently upgraded to fiberoptic but the xbox had no trouble connecting for a few weeks after
that so I don't think it's related.

However, the router broadcasts 2 SSID's, one that runs 2.4GHz and one that runs 5GHz. The xbox can only see the 2.4GHz SSID, and two other devices in the house that run on the 2.4GHz connection sometimes have trouble seeing the router, but there are other
devices on the 2.4GHz that have no issues so again, I don't think it's related.

The settings are already WPA2 and AES, and the router is alreay using channel 11. I might experiment with channels 1 and 6 later in the evening when people have finished working.
