  1. Xbox 360 E model runs hot, is this normal?

I picked up an xbox 360 E model a few months ago, but I have been busy and really haven't had a chance to play it much until recently.

I have played a few 2-3 hour sessions of Diablo 3 and my system gets really hot, specifically right on the top middle part of the system where the fan is.

I have never owned a 360 E model before, so I don't know if this is normal. I have the system standing vertically, I don't know if this is causing it to get any hotter than it should. The system is on top of my entertainment center, it is not closed in,
and all sides are exposed to the air with plenty of room.

Any opinions? Is this normal? Thanks!

    :)

If you only bought the console a few days ago i'd return it & ask for an exchange.

Your console shouldn't be boiling hot, especially if you install your games.

Xbox 360 E model runs hot, is this normal?

That is not normal for the E. I would try to lay it down (if possible) and see if that helps. Sadly there might be a fault on the inside that is causing this.

  5. Hello there The Jerry Best Xbox 360 E model runs hot, is this normal? :)

To add onto what Kendrn said, the Xbox 360 is designed to shut itself down to protect itself if it becomes too hot. You will receive a notification if this happens. The best thing to do is to ensure that your console is set up correctly and has sufficient
ventilation space. Please see the below guide.

Xbox 360 Initial Setup | Xbox Setup | Setting Up Xbox

    I hope this helps.

    Many thanks,

  6. @ Couldstrike Thank, I checked that and my system is correctly setup up and has sufficient ventilation space.

@ Kendrn The system is quiet outside of being able to hear the fan. I am going to try and place the system horizontal and see if it helps. Most diagrams show the system vertical though, so that is disappointing it this position causes significant heat build
    up.

Does anyone have an E model like gets pretty hot like this? If its not normal, should I call microsoft for if to be sent in to be fixed for given a replacement?

  7. You are more than welcome Xbox 360 E model runs hot, is this normal? :)

I don't have an E model, I have the S model and that gets pretty hot to touch but for the most part, its okay unless its shutting itself down to protect itself. I wouldn't say you have anything to worry about. If the console was too hot for its own good,
it would let you know about it.

    Many thanks,

Xbox 360 E model runs hot, is this normal?

    It's pretty normal I think.

My 360 S gets pretty hot when playing, but I can play for 10+ hours without the console overheating. In the 2 or so years I've owned it, I've actually NEVER had it overheat on me. Definitely impressed with that.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much. If your Xbox is properly set up and has sufficient ventilation, your Xbox should be fine. Now if your console started to regularly overheat, then that would definitely be an issue. But if the console runs fine then it's
just the console giving off heat and completely normal, all eletronics do.

If you're paranoid though, you can do what I did with my old PS3 and get a portable fan and position it so it blows cool air onto the console (DO NOT position the fan to blow air into the console vents/fans, this can do damage to the fans and it can also
blow dust inside of the console which you obviously don't want.)
