  1. Xbox 360 E DVD Dive make and Model

    I have seen both ‘Hitachi-LG DL10N’ and ‘Phillips-liteOn 16D4S’ in Xbox 360 E 250 GB consoles.

My question is which DVD drive will be in the "Xbox 360 E 500GB Black ops 2 Black ops Ghosts console Bundle"? Due for Release October 10th in New Zealand.

    :)

  2. Does the Xbox 360 E have a different DVD Disc drive to the Xbox 360 slim?

Because I have an Xbox 360 slim and an Xbox 360 E 250GB (Manufacture date 2013-07-23) and the Xbox 360 E makes a 'Grrrr' noise just prior to eject and also if a game is left in the drive idle it makes the same
noise after about a minute, the slim DVD drive
    does not make this noise.

Please see the You Tube link

The DVD drive also ejects smoother on E than the slim, (that’s another reason why i think it may be different. DVD drive)

I know of one other Xbox 360 E that makes exactly the same noise.

    Thanks

Any particular reason you need to know this? I suggest you google search it when the console is released. No doubt there will be a teardown video.

  5. Yes there is in my opinion the 'Phillips-liteOn 16D4S’ is a better DVD drive than the ‘Hitachi-LG DL10N’, so I am keen to know which one is used. Someone must know the answer to this, as they are already manufactured and ready for there release date on the
    10th October.

This is just a guess but the console will have probably have the cheapest drive option available. I don't think anyone here can accurately answer your question as this is a public forum full of average Joe gamers. You could try contacting Microsoft themselves?

In every teardown I've seen of the 360 the drive has been Lite-on DG-16D5S (Philips). 360's have shipped with that drive since the Slim. Right on up to the 360-E, and the optical drive won't change from 4GB, to a 250GB, or up to 500GB. They're all the same
model of 360 with different sized hard drives in them.

Not sure where you got the Hitachi drive model from? Maybe uh, recommended, unofficial repair parts for broken 360's... or something? *shrug*

I have asked Microsoft support and they cannot tell me as they don’t have access to that much detail.

    I have seen 2 xbox 360 E 250GB with Hitachi-LG DL10N out of a sealed Box - Manufacture dates

2013-07-24 and 2013-07-23, I have also seen an xbox 360 E 250GB with a Phillips liteOn 16D4S manufacture date 2013-05-10 all PAL for Australia and New Zealand.

Please see the link for the Hitachi-LG DL10N in an Xbox 360 E comparing to a Phillips liteOn 16D4S in a Slim. Please note the Unusual Noise with the Hitachi.

  9. Just install the game to the hard drive, then it won't matter what DVD drive your console has, the game will run from the hard drive. No noise, no reading problems, faster loading. You'll still need the disc in the drive, but is only for anti-Piracy purposes.
Once you install a game on an Xbox 360, any 360, the game will entirely from the hard drive.

Thanks for that - but what I want to know is which DVD drive will be in the "Xbox 360 E 500GB COD Black ops 2, COD Ghosts console Bundle"? Due for Release October 10th in New Zealand. Is it the ‘Hitachi-LG DL10N’ or ‘Phillips-liteOn 16D4S’. Someone must
have the contacts to find this out.

    Much appreciated.

I don't know for sure, and I hope you find out, but dude, I'm going go to go out on a limb and state the new 360-E's shipped with the Lite-On DG-16D5S. Notice the 5? Instead of the 16D-4-S you're hoping for? I'm also gonna suggest that the guy in the video
you linked was bewildered by the difference in appearance of drive draws and the fact one drive was making a noise. His one machine making a noise isn't indicative of all machines making the same noise, or all drives by that particular manufacturer - as yet
unidentified - being prone to making that noise.

Even if it's true you've seen two E's from 'sealed boxes' emerge with Hitachi drives, you didn't witness them going, "Grr." lol I own a S and E. Neither goes "Grr." If one did I wouldn't presume to know whether the manufacturer was Philips, Hitachi, or Benq.
But I'd guess at my quiet E drive being Philips because from the old Toshiba/Samsung, to the Hitachi's, and to the Benq's, Philips' Lite-Ons were shipping with the last batch of S's, and appeared in the

    teardowns
of the incoming E's in 2013. As an aside, if my drive was going "Grr" I'd return the console to the store as one of the commenters in that dude's video suggested.

Anyway, good luck finding out bro. {XD Whether it's a Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L, or as you're specifically looking to avoid a Hitachi-LG DL10N. Or a BenQ-QVAD6038, a Lite-On DG-16D2S or 4S, or a 5S... all having appeared in various models and iterations of the
360... if it goes "Grr"... don't buy it. {=D

Thanks Argontheos for your insight and advice. If I Buy the Xbox 360 500GB E and the DVD drive makes the Grrr sound I will be returning it and getting it replaced.

  14. I read your response closer Argontheos and I Do know that the 2 Xbox 360 E’s make the Grr sound the same as the one in the video. This is because I owned both of them, I returned the first to the store and got a replacement and it was exactly the same. I
presumed the dvd Drive that makes that GRRR sound is the Hitachi from research I have made. I then presumed they were all the same and put up with it. I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this from a Hitachi (if that is what it is)
or it was just a bad batch.

But as stated before the thing I am trying to confirm is which dvd drive is in the xbox 360 E 500GB. As said in my previous reply if I buy the xbox 360 E 500GB and the DVD drive makes the same noise I will return it, I am just trying to eliminate that chance.

    It really makes no difference......

every drive makes a "grr" sound with a disk spinning.... Put the console on the carpet Xbox 360 E DVD Dive make and Model :)

Again, repairs and warranties are availible.
