Xbox 360 E crashes on desktop, but not in games.

Okay, I'm baffled by the problems I'm having, but I don't think this is a hardware problem, so I'm reluctant to try sending my console in for repair.

So, I used to own an Xbox 360 S that started crashing after it'd been on for a while, looked like standard heat related problems. No big deal, I've gone through 3 360s over the last decade, I know they're not that reliable. Now, I went out and bought a new
360 S, and started having a crash on the dashboard. I figured I just got a bad console, so returned it, and got another. However, I've now gone through three brand new 360s, with the latest being an E, and had the same problem with all of them, so I have to
    figure it isn't the hardware.

It only crashes on the dashboard, somewhere between 1 and 5 minutes after starting up. If I can immediately launch a game, it'll run fine all day long without crashing, it's only a problem on the dashboard. If I disconnect the 360 from the network, it's
also fine, and doesn't crash even after running for hours.

I've tried putting it in the middle of the room, on a wood floor, in case it was heat related. I've tried plugging it into a UPS, in case it was power related. I've tried removing all of my accessories (Kinect, USB drives, HDD). I've tried formatting the internal
memory, and removing all other storage, and creating a brand new profile. I've cleared the system cache more times than I can count. I've tried signing in to a different profile. None of it matters, if it's connected to the network, and on the dashboard,
it'll lock up in ~5 minutes, every time. Even if I just leave it on the sign in screen, if it's on the network, guaranteed lock up.

    :)

    Profile trouble

    Hello!

    My name is Alex!

I had a problem with the Gears of War 2 game in backward compatibility mode with the Xbox 360. We've been playing together, and at some point the game freezes and eventually closed. After that, when you try to log into the game with the profile, which played
the second player (tied to *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** e-mail), the game crashes when you try to update the network settings and then closes. Restart the console does not help. Moreover, the profile *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** is the main profile on our Xbox 360 console, and the game Gears
of War 2 on Xbox 360 with this profile also crashes. In other games, for example, Gears of War 3 there are no problems with the profile *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***, both on Xbox One and Xbox 360. If you do not log in the profile *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***, a problem also disappears. What
happened with the profile, how we can restore its performance? We created another profile on Xbox one, at first everything was normal, played together, but at some point again, Gears of War 2 game freezes and the profile of the second player now causes the
game to crash. First player’s profile at the same time remains operable.

    Crash issues

I have noticed that very many crash issues have been posted on the internet over a very long period without a solution.

If you are playing the xBox game on a PC (Windows 10) and if it crashes when the game is loading (stating to play) then I think there is a very good chance this link provides the solution:

    https://forums.forzamotorsport.net/turn10_postst110022p3_-ANSWERED--Forza-7-crashes-to-desktop-on-la...

I would not be surprised if it fixed issues other than crash on loading but I am not so confident of that. At the same time it seems likely the setup is required to reliably play games on a PC despite not finding advice elsewhere to say so.

Just out of curiosity, are you using the same hard drive in all of the new consoles?

  5. Hi there, I'm basically having the same problem here. System freezes after usually even less than a minute after starting. However if I manage to sign out of my profile right after auto-login, everything works fine. Same if I start a game. Also no problem
using the dashboard while online as long as I'm not signed into my profile, I can browse around the online games store and everything. But soon after I sign into my profile, the dashboard freezes. Apps also work if I start them from the dashboard being signed-out
and then signing in after the app starts (tried it with the Youtube app, vids and everything working fine). I reckon this must have something to do with the latest update which download this morning, problems started after that. I'm signed up for the preview
program, might that be causing the problems? There doesn't seem to be a way to opt out right away and return to the last working system/dashboard version.

    Any help is highly appreciated.

I apologize for taking so long to reply, didn't realize I wouldn't get notified of new posts here.

I tried both with and without the old hard drive. When things didn't work, I pulled the hard drive out, and tried with just the internal memory. Even tried then formatting the internal memory to ensure that I didn't have any previous data. Now, I probably
should have tried first bringing the system up without ever plugging in the old hard drive, but hadn't figured out the pattern at that point.

Will go take a look at the update preview forum, see if I can track anything down.

Hrm, turns out that I don't have access to that update preview forum, probably because I'm not participating in that preview program.
